patterns,
a. tape measure – a 60-inch measuring tool has a number on both sides, it is used
in taking body measurements
b. sewing gauge – are made of piece of cardboard use in measuring and making
hems and seam allowances uniform
c. Ruler/Yardstick/ meter stick – is used to measure fabric and to check grain line. It
can be used in marking a long straight lines and in measuring hem lengths
d. L-square - a tool useful in constructing perpendicular lines with divisional parts
located in longer and shorter arms
e. French curve - a tool used to smooth curved lines on patterns, typically at the
collar, armhole, and neckline areas
f. Curve ruler/Hip Curve - is used in connecting or shaping slightly curve points like
waist and hip curves. It has a measure of inches at the front and centimeters at
the back part.
2. Cutting – refers to the tools used in trimming threads or cutting fabrics
a. Shears, the cutting tool with more than 6” tall, having a different handle sizes,
which is used mainly for cutting cloth.
b. scissors, a cutting tool with less than 6” tall and in the same handle sizes.
c. pinking shears, a cutting tool having same characteristics of an ordinary shears
but has a serrated blade, designed to prevent the raveling of cloth edges
d. thread cutter, a cutting tool primarily used for trimming short threads left on cloth.
3. Marking tools- tools used in leaving marks on the cloth or pattern
a. Tailor's Chalk - a thin piece of hard chalk used in tailoring for making temporary
marks on wrong side of fabrics.
b. Tracing Paper – a type of paper used to transfer markings from a pattern to cloth.
c. Tracing wheel - is a saw-toothed metal disk used to transfer markings from
patterns to fabric
4. Sewing tools- refers to the tools used in mending, sewing or uniting fabrics for the
safety of the sewer.
a. Needles – a sharp thin metal that are used for basting, sewing buttons on and
when mending torn clothes.
b. Threads - a material used to pass through the cloth together with the needle
c. Pin Cushion - a cotton-stuffed cloth used to keep the pins and needles in place.
d. Pins - used hold cloth together during cutting and sewing it also helps save time in
basting.
e. Thimble - made of either plastic or metal material w/c is used to protect the finger
from being pricked by the needle when sewing.
f. Emery Bag - used for thrusting needles and pins. They sharpen the needles and
removes rust.
All put together in a Sewing Box that serves as a utility box which kept all the tools
orderly
