Assignment: Reflection

Focus on what you have learned about innovation, teamwork, and the SILC Challenge
2022.

The SILC challenge has proven to be rather a useful way for us to learn more about our society,
learners as children, and our parents in general. Having taken time to engage children, on their
welfare as well as parents on the shortcomings they face we have learned that:

1. Societal issues play a much bigger role in how we live our lives.
2. That it is true, if we as a society decide to act on our issues we can solve them even if it's
marginally.
3. That is our townships the effect of being at the brink of society with limited to no
resources has ensured that knowledge, information, and power that comes with it does
not circulate in our midst.

We appreciate the SILC challenge and how it has been composed, we particularly love how we
have been able to, through the different phases identify what's been our strengths, be it testing,
speaking to people, researching, or even boosting team morale.

What we learned and realized is that we must organize ourselves.

That work will happen much smoother if we delegate, set deadlines, and have measures to ensure
we all are still on the same pace. It allowed us to be a part of a learning experience together to
ensure no one was left behind. It has been beautiful experiencing positive energy, even when all
of us had seen question marks throughout this whole experience. The energy of resilience. One
that flows from one member to another.

There being only 3 of us on the team only heightened the experience for us. We felt challenges
and moments of relief more intensely. The part where we struggled the most had to be
innovating. Yes, our idea is not new but it is different from the rest.

Highlight the learning you have gained throughout the SILC process. Mention skills
throughout the SILC process. Mention specific knowledge, skills, and tools and how you
think you can use these in your life (both personal and professional).

We have learned that parents go through tough times, some as single parents and some as co-
parents but it is not easy to raise a child nor participate in their development holistically. We
learned about different personalities, values, and beliefs. We learned that if you face your
challenges you would succeed in life. We faced many challenges with SILC; we were frustrated
that we were unable to express our thoughts on paper, and we felt behind with SILC when we
got feedback we knew what to improve on and dedicated our spare time to the challenge and we
managed to keep up. We learned to believe in ourselves more, and that innovation faces you to
be creative, think outside of what you already know, and be open-minded. It taught us to over-
communicate and it worked in our favor.

We learned public speaking skills because we approached our stakeholders; we introduced our
topic and ourselves. We learned to be selfless in the sense that, we stopped focusing on ourselves
but on our stakeholders, the people we interviewed. We learned how to control our emotions and
channel them to work even harder. Our mentality was that what does not kill us makes us
stronger. These newly learned public speaking skills are going to be useful in our daily lives,
such as in interviews, and in front of audiences, and will help us cement our voices. Emotional
intelligence helps navigate spaces where there are people with different mindsets, ways of life,
and beliefs.

Why do you believe you should be crowned SILC 2022 winners?

We believe that we are the best team to win this SILC completion because we have followed all
the design thinking steps, namely, understanding the problem at hand, what is its root cause,
identifying our user group and their needs, coming up with multiple solutions and ultimately
choosing the best one that will meet our user needs.

As for our team, this competition is not only about winning but also about completing this
journey, working thoroughly to ensure that we satisfy all the requirements. It is also about
gaining new skills and knowledge, exploring our capabilities, and doing this we would not
necessarily do in our daily lives. The SILC project gave each one of us on our team a chance to
demonstrate our extraordinary talents and skills. Amongst many skills, we learned how to sift
through any research documents, edit videos, have unlimited patience, and perfect our writing
skills. We are unique because we have brought out both the best and worst in this assignment.
We realized things that we are good at or bad at.

In this assignment, we have experienced growth, grit, hardworking, and multitasking. We had
many late-night video calls, staying late at school, and multiple homework. We benefited so
much from it; things that we were not aware that we are good at and that boosted our self-
confidence. Now we are able with the knowledge we have to appreciate our parents more,
understand the issues they face, and extend grace to them.

SILC taught us the importance of teamwork, commitment, cooperation, and pertinence of

consistency. We vowed to work on our SILC challenge every day since we started so that we can
make the most of the time we had. Other days were productive, others left us demotivated alas,
and we kept on pushing ourselves.

Finishing and submitting this assignment after the challenges we came across throughout this
project, we are happy that our SILC champion provided us with feedback, which was very
critical to us, as we had no idea where we stood or if we were on the right where we going wrong
or right.

Our team Legends To Be, the most important thing we can say is that even though there are three
of us, we are capable. We have kept motivated and pushed ourselves and that helped us bring out
our full potential, like how diamonds shine after being exposed to pressure. This competition
trained us not to break down under pressure.

We deserve to win this competition because what we are bringing is a good idea, we believe and
it will make a difference in people's lives, especially those that have been interested in
participating in their children's holistic development.
