Goldilocks Cowl

Abbreviations
BLO – Back Loop Only.
Materials CH – Chain.
One skein (200 yards) of Classy with CH-SP – Chain Space.

The cowl is crocheted as a spiral. Keep track of the beginning of the rounds by placing a locking stitch marker into the first

Size: 20” in circumference at the top neck edge, 30” at bottom and 8” deep. Gauge is 4 sts./in. and 4 rows/in.
Directions
Section 1
Leaving a 6" tail, FSC 72 stitches, as directed above. (If you would prefer to begin
with a conventional chain stitch, CH72.)
Position the FSC strip so that you will be crocheting into the SC side. Join in the
round with a SC stitch in the SC side of the FSC beginning. (If doing a conventional
chain beginning, connect in the round with a SC stitch.) Place a locking stitch
marker in the first stitch of the round. Replace marker into the first stitch of each
subsequent round.
Round 1: SC into each SC stitch from the FSC to EOR. (If the start is a conventional
chain, SC into each CH.
Rounds 2-4: EXSC into BLO of every stitch to EOR.
Section 2 Divider
Round 1: HDC into each stitch. (Into both parts of the top V in the usual manner.)
Round 2: HDCTBBO into each stitch. (Half Double Crochet Through Back Bar Only.
The entire V comes forward and the back bar is located behind it.)
Round 3: HDC into each stitch. (Into both parts of the top V in the usual manner.)
Round 4: Increase Round. *SC8, SC2INC into next stitch; repeat from * to EOR.
80 stitches.
Section 3 Linen Stitch
Round 1: *SC1, CH1, SK1; repeat from * to EOR.
Rounds 2-5: *SC1 into next CH-1SP, CH1, skip over SC; repeat from * to EOR.
Round 6: SC into each SC and CH-1SP to EOR.
Section 4 Divider
Round 1: Increase Round. *HDC8, HDC2 into next stitch; repeat from * to EOR. 90 stitches.
Round 2: HDCTBBO into each stitch. (Half Double Crochet Through Back Bar Only. The entire V comes forward and the back
bar is located behind it.)
Round 3: SC into each stitch. (Into both parts of the top V in the usual manner.)
Section 5 HDC V-Stitch
Round 1: *HDC1, CH1, HDC1 into first stitch, SK1; repeat from * to EOR.
Rounds 2-8: *HDC1, CH1, HDC1 into CH-1SP; repeat from * to EOR.
Section 6 Scallop Border
Round 1: *SC1, DC3, SC1 into next CH-1SP, SK1 stitch, SL ST into next CH-1SP, SK1 stitch; repeat from * to last CH-1SP, SL ST
into that space. Secure tail. Weave in tails.
Blocking and Laundering
Soak the cowl for fifteen minutes in lukewarm water with a small amount of non-rinsing wool wash. Squeeze out excess water.
Position the cowl on blocking mats or towel. Rearrange periodically to allow air to flow through and to avoid creasing.
