FLOWERING PLANT S
Anther
-Bilobed
- Each lobe having two theca,( dithecous).
Often a longitudinal groove runs lengthwise separating the theca.
- Tetragonal structure consisting of four microsporangia located at
the corners, two in each lobe.
- The microsporangia develop further and become pollen sacs.

STRUCTURE OF
MICROSPORANGIUM
monocarpellary multicarpellary
Xenogamy
- Transfer of pollen from
anther to the stigma of
a different plant.
- Genetically different
pollen to stigma.
Agent of pollination
- Quite common in grasses.
Hydrophily
- Quite rare. Limited about 30 genera,
mostly monocots
- Pollen are long , ribbon like.
- Have mucilaginous cover
- Not all aquatic plants use hydrophily.
Zoophily
- Entomophily is more common.
- Large, colorful, fragrant and rich in
nectar. Generally sticky pollen.
Endosperm development
- PEC divides repeatedly and
forms Triploid endosperm
tissue.
- Filled with reserve food
materials
- Provide nutrition to
developing embryo,
- Commonly, PEN undergoes
successive nuclear
divisions to give free
nuclei.(Free Nuclear
Endosperm)
- It becomes cellular due to
cell wall formation.
- Coconut water- Free-nuclear
- White kernel - cellular
