development (EDUC 3600).

COMMENTS:

During this practicum, Codi planned lessons for Language Arts, Social Studies, Science, Math, Physical
Education, FNMI, Music, and Art. She created unit plans for Math, Social Studies, and Science. Codi
demonstrated confidence in creating lesson plans following a template to ensure that all necessary parts were
included. She referred to the curriculum (including the new Math, Language Arts & Literature, Science, and
Physical Education & Wellness) to ensure that her lessons connected with the outcomes. All of her lessons
included a variety of activities including: whole group, small group, independent, movement, hands-on,
technology, outdoors/nature, pencil-paper (i.e. drawing, writing), and creative expression (i.e. art, drama, music).

COMMENTS:

Codi has shown dedication in developing her classroom management skills and timing of lessons. She has tried
different strategies to help improve the students' engagement in lessons, such as movement breaks, hands-on
activities, and call & response attention getters. She has also used visual timers to help students stay on task, as
well as keep herself on track. Codi circulates during small group work or independent work to check in with
students to see if they are understanding the task. If not, she supports and guides them.
Codi consistently connects lessons with the previous day's learning through verbal reviews and questions. She
also lets students know the goals of each lesson.
There is no homework assigned in Grade 2.

COMMENTS:
Codi has a gentle and calm demeanour. She was easily able to connect with the students and develop positive
relationships. She continues to practice being more firm and assertive with classroom behaviour expectation in
whole group teacher guided lessons. She has learned several strategies that she has been practicing to help
students remain attentive during lessons. Codi is always positive and respectful when interacting with students
and staff.

COMMENTS:
Codi developed checklists corresponding to curricular outcomes which she used to assess students'
competencies. She used classroom observations, assessment of products (i.e paper-pencil tasks), pictures (of
students working on tasks), and video recordings of students explaining their work or learning. Codi adapted her
lessons for the following day, based on her observations and conversations with the students. She did get
guidance with programming for students with ISPs, including their adapted tasks/modifications in her lesson
plans and communicating this with the EAs in the classroom.

COMMENTS:
Codi consistently came to school with a positive and professional attitude. She always had a smile on her face and
kind words for all. Codi was very receptive to all suggestions and advice that was given to her. She went to observe
in various classrooms, as well as had conversations with a variety of staff members, to gain knowledge and
understanding of different perspectives.

Areas for further growth:
In our conversations, Codi has expressed an intention to continue to work on developing consistency with
classroom management techniques, timing of different activities during lessons, and programming for students
with ISPs.

Overall comments (Strongest aspects of student’s performance):


Codi has been a pleasure to have in our classroom. She showed dedication to developing her own teaching skills,
as well as to the skills of the students. She has a mature perspective on what is involved in becoming an effective
teacher. I wish her all the best as she continues her journey to becoming a certified teacher.
