The health effects of alcohol abuse

Physical= liver disease, including cirrhosis and life-threatening liver

(including colon cancer), breast, and liver.

Mental= Alcohol is a depressant, which means it can disrupt that


balance, affecting our thoughts, feelings and actions – and
sometimes our long-term mental health. This is partly down to
'neurotransmitters', chemicals that help to transmit signals from one
nerve (or neuron) in the brain to another.

Social= If consumed to excess, alcohol can affect all areas of a


person's life, as well as the lives of their family and friends. ... For
some, drinking in excess can lead to legal problems as a result of
anti-social and violent behaviour or the loss of their driving licence.

Emotianal= It may cause our body to release endorphins (making us


feel relaxed and euphoric), but it's also classified as a depressant. If
you're predisposed to mental health disorders, alcohol can
exacerbate the effects of
certain conditions – including anxiety and depression.
Patterns of alcohol use in Ireland

Per capita alcohol consumption in Ireland was 11 litres of pure


alcohol per person aged 15+ in 2018. The Health Research Board
(HRB) has pointed out that our per capita alcohol consumption in
2015 is equal to 41 litres of
gin/vodka, 116 bottles of wine or 445 pints of beer per person aged
15+.

What are solvents

A solvent is a substance that dissolves a solute, resulting in a


solution. A solvent is usually a liquid but can also be a solid, a gas, or
a supercritical fluid. The quantity of solute that can dissolve in a
specific volume of solvent varies with temperature.

The health effects of solvent abuse

Physical= Exposure to high doses can cause confusion and delirium.


In addition, inhalant abusers may experience dizziness, drowsiness,
slurred speech, lethargy, depressed reflexes, general muscle
weakness, and stupor.
Mental=Inhalant users show the highest rates of mental illness
diagnoses. Inhalant use is linked to exacerbating the symptoms of:
Depression.
Anxiety.
Personality disorders. Suicide.
Self-harm behaviors.

Emotional=At lower doses, inhalant use causes immediate feelings of


euphoria, excitation, and light-headedness (consistent with increases
in dopamine). Prolonged use and higher doses cause CNS depression
which may result in: Slurred speech. Dizziness. Impaired
coordination. Headaches. Blurred vision.

cancer than people who don't smoke. Even one cigarette now and
then might hurt your social life too. Like regular smokers, social
smokers have the smell of smoke on their clothes and on their
breath.

Why do young people smoke
I think young people smoke becauss there trying to be cool but some
people will lose friends becauss of it.
Ways smoking can be avodied
You can vape but that isnt good either. Maybe you can take up a
sport or sometginh. To get you mimd off it. There are thimgs like
chewing gum that can help.
