Aloe Lotion
I. Objective:
To create an aloe lotion
To identify the different functions of the ingredients
To write a correct lotion formulation

II. Tools & Equipment

2 Pan balance
1 heating plate
5 Beaker 100ml
5 Beaker 250 ml
1 Beaker 500ml
3 Stirring rod
2 Graduated cylinder 20ml
5 watch glass 70 mm
5 spatula
1 lotion container 200ml
PH test strips
1 homogenizer/ blender
1 long- probe lab thermometer
1 glass dropper
1 water bath

Ingredients

1 cup aloe vera gel

1 tsp + 1 TBSP beeswax pastilles

1/2 cup almond oil or jojoba oil (or any other liquid oil)
1 tsp vitamin E oil
1 TBSP shea butter
essential oils of choice

iII. Procedure:
Weigh all the ingredients
Melt the beeswax, almond oil (or other liquid oil), and shea butter (if using) in a double boiler or glass
bowl over a pan of water.
Remove from heat and pour into a blender or beaker (if using an immersion blender).
Let cool to room temperature (25 C). Add the vitamin E (if using) and any essential oils.
Start blending on low using a blender or immersion blender. Very slowly, start adding the aloe vera gel
until incorporated. Use a spatula to wipe down the sides and re-blend a few times until fully incorporated.
Store in a glass jar in the fridge for up to six weeks.

1ml = 1 gram

1. Melt phase A using double boiler.

2. Remove from heat and stir under high shear until smooth

3. Combine phase B to phase A and stir under medium shear while the emulsion cools
METHOD
4. Let it cool at room temperature 25 C.

5. Add Phase C to phase A/ B and stir under medium shear until homogenous

6. Add Phase D to phase A/B/ C and stir under low shear until homogenous emulsion

7. Adjust pH to 5.0-5.5
