Most of us feel a renewed spirit of patriotism around Independence Day but as hardworking

citizens of Filipino, we know that instilling patriotic values is extremely important.

Especially in our families and in our schools, children who grow up with patriotic sentiments
tend to have a better sense of self. Here are some examples of patriotism parents should teach
their kids.

Patriotism can take many faces for us and mean different things to different people. For some it
means freedom of speech, whereas for others it might be about being able to express themselves
freely.

In either case, we are not alone in feeling these sentiments and often share them with many other
fellow Filipino. This is why it’s important to be able to show your love for your country and also
to understand what our flag means to our country.

Here are a few more reasons why patriotism is important.

Helps bring people together

Being part of one nation motivated towards a mission to make your country better can help you
relate with others.

It also helps to imbibe a sense of unity and togetherness in us that helps give direction and
purpose to our lives.

Watching the Filipino flag waving ferociously high up on a building makes us feel like we
belong and helps us feel less alone in the company of our fellow countrymen.

It helps build a stronger nation

When we believe in patriotism and practice patriotic values, it automatically motivates each
individual to work towards the betterment of the country. This helps the entire nation work
together and reminds us to keep the values of our country in mind to stay united and together.

It reminds the average Filipino to be their most hardworking and honest self, working endlessly
to make sure the country excels. It also reminds us to support each other in our endeavors.

Patriotic spirit is an admirable quality

There’s no denying that those who know themselves well and are able to identify their beliefs
and values are infinitely more attractive. On top of that, people who can stick by their virtues and
practice them regularly by not being afraid to display their loyalty and affection are also stronger.

You don’t have to be a soldier in war to be patriotic. By owning your national identity and
waving the flag proudly, you too can be a proud Filipino. Choose what patriotism means to you
and don’t be afraid to brandish it wherever you are
