Rainbow Nursery Weekly

Week 1 Friday 15.09.23

This week in Nursery

What a lovely week we have had in Nursery.
This week we have been concentrating on settling the children in. The transition from home
to Nursery is an important one to get right. We endeavour to make your children feel secure,
cared for and inspired. For some of them, this is their first year in a school setting and we
want to get it right.

We are very happy to say that so far, the children seem to be finding their feet confidently
and calmly. They are learning what they can explore inside and of outside and finding out
where things are. They are taking in new information all of the time and finding their way.
This is no mean feat and your children will be tired. It has been lovely to see our returning
children being so kind and showing the new children around.

How to help
• Please try your very best to continue with toilet training. There will inevitably be some
accidents.
• Please help to teach your child how to take off and put on their clothes.
• Please think about the clothes your child is wearing. Can they take them off? Are they
too tight? Dungarees are difficult to undo unless they have a simple fastening. Laces
are difficult too. We prefer if your child has Velcro rather than laces. Please also try to
label all your child’s clothes with their name, including bags, hats, shirts etc.

Thank you in advance for your assistance with this.

Lunches
The menu has been placed on the notice board Water and Snacks
outside of Nursery (and is available on the We provide snacks, crackers, fruit, milk and
school’s website). Please let us know if any water. Please do not allow your child to bring in
dietary changes occur. their own snacks. We have snack time on the
carpet and children are enjoy having time to sit
Please follow the school policy for packed and eat. Please provide your child with their own
lunches. water bottle with their name on it (we can
provide a label for you).

Themes of the week: ‘My family’ and ‘All about me’

This week we have been focussing on the story ‘Owl Babies’ by
Martin Waddell. This story helps the children understand the
transition from home to the Nursery. This story gave us the
opportunity to speak about how we feel when our parents leave
and what can we do to feel better.

We spoke about our own families. We are making our own

family tree by decorating leaves and sticking our family photo
on the top. We also got to know our new friends’ names, wrote
letters to them and made our own post box!

Key Workers
You have already found out who is the key worker for your child. Key workers are very important for
all communication about your children’s experience in Nursery. We are all interested and will all be
informed but this is your first point of contact.

We have told the children that they need to let any adult know if they have been hurt or upset by
another child, have hurt themselves in any way or need support in the toilet. We are encouraging
them to talk to us as we are really happy to help. If they let you know something please let us know in
case they did not tell us.

Other important information

• If you have a nanny, childminder or another adult for pick up that we have not yet met,
please provide their name with a photo. We would ideally like to meet them.
• Children are not allowed to come to Nursery wearing any jewellery, this includes key
rings on their bags. Remember that crocs are not allowed for safety reasons.

• We regularly loan books to children in the Nursery from the Reading Shed located next
to the nursery door. From Monday, there will be a sign out sheet for you to fill in if
your child would like to borrow a book, please only take up to two books at a time.

• Please can you email us with a family photo for our family tree. Thank you to those
who have already provided this. Please can you bring your ‘All about me’ sheet if you
haven’t done it yet.
• Please do not bring toys in from home unless it is a specific comforter that has been
discussed with the Nursery staff.
• We will always phone you if there is any head/face injury, however basic. You will
receive an accident slip with details of any accident or injury that has occurred at
Nursery and we will discuss it with you if applicable.
• The whiteboard outside Nursery will be regularly updated with information for you so
please check this.

Please do email Priscila if you have any issues that you cannot easily discuss with us in
person.
