LESSON PLAN IN MAPEH 10

2nd Quarter
Music 10

I. OBJECTIVES
Within one hour of teacher-student interaction, the students shall:
a. Enumerate four different genres of Original Pilipino Music
b. Appreciate the music made by Filipino Artist
c. Execute basic forms of OPM and organizing concert

II. SUBJECT MATTER: Afro-Latin American and Popular Music

Before we start our learning, can (Student) (Prayer)

lesson. Yesterday we have the definition of OPM is originally used to refer only to
Original Pilipino Music. Now, (student), Philippine pop songs, particularly ballads,
can you give me one of the definitions of such as those popular after the collapse of
OPM? its predecessor, the Manila Sound

How about you (student), in what year did 1970 – 1980 is regarded as the golden
OPM emerged? year of Philippine Ballads.

B. LESSON PROPER

So for today’s lesson, we will talk about


the different genres of OPM.

First is the Philippine Pop.

Pop music in the Philippines started as an


adaptation or translation, if not, complete
imitation of Western hits.
1.Bobby Gonzales’ Hahabol-habol (Hot
Pursuit)
2.Rico J Puno’s Luneta, (The Way We
Were)
3. Fred Panopio’s Kawawang Cowboy
(Rhinestone Cowboy)
(Teachers will play the sample music) (Students listen and ask questions)

Next is Philippine Alternative Music.


This new form combined ethnic
instrumentation with electronic
accompaniment, while presenting themes
or issues of society and the environment.
Some of the Filipino composers who
championed this style were Joey Ayala,
Grace Nono, and Edru.
(Teachers will play the sample music) (Students listen and ask questions)

Third is Philippine Rock. The year 1973


saw the birth of Philippine or “Pinoy” rock
music which successfully merged the rock
beat with Filipino lyrics. This new sound
was introduced by the legendary Juan de
la Cruz Band (Ang Himig Natin) which had
for its members Joey “Pepe” Smith, Wally
Gonzales, and the originator of Jeproks,
Mike Hanopol, who later became a major
symbol of Pinoy rock. (Students listen and ask questions)

Last is Pinoy Rap. Pinoy Rap adopted


western music rapping and started with
Francis Magalona and Andrew E.

C. APPLICATION
So for the next activity, as the class is divided into four groups, the groups need to
perform one song per genre and groups should compose one song to be sang on the
day of the performance.

D. EVALUATION
Give a Guess the Genre type examination to assess the understanding of the
students. The teacher will play a music and the students will answer what is
the genre that the song will fit.

E. ASSIGNMENT
A. Write in your notebook two (2) genres in OPM that are not tackled in our
lesson which can be found in the references of our lesson.
