3-SEDM2 EDUC 301

Async Activity 1.
1. In your own words (4-10 sentences), what are the differences of measurement,
evaluation and assessments? (5 pts)
 Measurements are classified and/or quantified through measurement.
While evaluation is concerned with making judgments on the worth or
value of performance in order to respond to a question. In addition
assessment encompasses both measuring and evaluation. Also, it is a
broad term that includes assessments, and a test is a type of assessment.

2. In your own word (6-10 sentences), what should assessments be like? (5 pts)
 Assessment indicates how much someone has learned. It occurs at the
conclusion of a unit or semester, right before everyone moves on to the
next unit or course. Everyone carries on, no matter what the research
indicates, no matter who learned or who did not. There are two major
issues with this. To begin, research indicates that humans want feedback
in order to learn. When assessment is delayed until the end of a learning
period, no one receives feedback. As a result, no one is learning optimally.
Second, when students go on regardless of whether or not they learned
what was required of them, their learning gaps widen. And it will continue
to grow with time.

3. As future educators, explain how you will use educational measurement? (5-10
sentences) (5 pts)
 It is significant because measuring individual student growth can provide
more feedback to students, schools, parents, and ofcourse me as a
teacher than just comparing them. As a teacher, I will collect information
via administering tests, conducting interviews, and observing student
behavior. To ensure reliability and validity, the evaluation should be
thoroughly planned and administered. For example, consider the test
results of eighth students one year. You can tell if the manner you educate
the eighth grade is productive or if they are learning something by looking
at their test scores.

4. True or false: Only summutive assessment can determine what a student has
learned in the course. Defend your answer in 5-10 sentences. (5 pts)\
 False, because not only summative assessments can identify what a
student has learned in the course. It can also be done through formative
and evaluative evaluation. Summative means only one exam at the
conclusion of the semester. But we're not just learning; we're also doing.
Also, after each class, there will be a quiz (formative) to judge whether or
not we learned anything about that subject. We have a class (evaluative)
once a year to broaden our knowledge on a specific subject. So I cannot
accept that "only" in summative evaluation did we, as students, learn.

5. Which of the functions of assessment do you think is the most important?

Explain. (5-10sentences) (5 pts)
 I believe formative assessment is more important since the purpose of
formative assessment is to evaluate student learning and give continuing
feedback that instructors and students may utilize to improve their
teaching and learning. Formative assessments, in particular, assist
students in identifying their strengths and shortcomings and focusing on
areas that require improvement. The use of formative evaluations across
classes and units guarantees that all students grasp ideas and information
along the way. They help to create a supportive learning environment and
improve learning outcomes by affirming that learning is a process.
Furthermore, it assists educators in identifying where students are failing
and addressing issues as soon as possible.
