1. Thức giả định dùng với các ĐỘNG TỪ diễn đạt sự cầu khiến, gợi ý, yêu cầu, mong muốn...

Công thức:

• Dạng khẳng định:

Chủ ngữ 1+ động từ (ask demand insist/ recommend...) + that + chủ ngữ 2 + (should) +Động từ nguyên mẫu

• Dạng phủ định:

Chủ ngữ 1 + động từ (ask demand insist/ recommend...) + that + chủ ngữ 2+ (should) + not + động từ nguyên
mẫu

• Dạng bị động:

Chủ ngữ 1+ động từ (ask/ demand/ insist recommend...) + that + chủ ngữ 2+ (should) + be + P.P

2. Thức giả định dùng với TÍNH TỪ:

3. Thức giả định với cụm DANH TỪ:

Công thức:

• It is + Cụm danh từ + that + Chủ ngữ + (should) + Động từ nguyên thế

• It is + cụm danh từ + that + chủ ngữ + (should) + not + Động từ nguyên thể

• It is + cụm danh từ + that + chủ ngữ + (should) + be + P.P

• Cụm danh từ + is + that + chủ ngữ + (should) + (not) + động từ nguyên thể/ be + P.P

Ví dụ:

• It is a recommendation that the secretary phone the boss before the meeting.

4. Thức giả định với “WOULD RATHER”: muốn,mong muốn

4.1. “Would rather” diễn tả sự việc, hành động trái với thực tế ở hiện tại

Công thức:

(+)Dạng khẳng định: Chủ ngữ 1 + would rather (that) + chủ ngữ 2+ động từ quá khứ

(-)Dạng phủ định: Chủ ngữ 1 + would rather (that) + chủ ngữ 2 + didn't + động từ nguyên mẫu

=> Chú ý: Động từ ở mệnh đề sau “would rather” ở dạng trái với hiện tại này chia ở quá khứ giả định.
Nghĩa là, động từ chia thì quá khứ đơn, và “to be” luôn được chia “were” với tất cả các ngôi.

Ví dụ:

•Owen would rather that his girlfriend worked in the same department as he does.

(Owen muốn bạn gái cùng làm chung trong phòng ban anh ấy đang làm.)

•Jane would rather that it were winter now.

(Jane ước gì bây giờ là mùa đông.)

4.2. “Would rather” diễn tả sự việc trái với thực tế ở quá khứ

Công thức:

(+)Dạng khẳng định:Chủ ngữ 1 + would rather (that) + Chủ ngữ 2 + động từ quá khứ hoàn thành

(-)Dạng phủ định: Chủ ngữ 1 + would rather (that) + Chủ ngữ 2 + hadn't + phân từ quá khứ

•Bob would rather (that) Jill had gone to class yesterday.(Bob ước rằng Jill đã đi học ngày hôm qua.)

•Jim would rather (that) his wife hadn't divorced him(Jim ước gì vợ mình không ly dị.)

5. Thức giả định dùng với “IT IS TIME”: đã đến lúc phải làm gì

Cấu trúc 1: It is time (for smb) to do ST : vừa kịp lúc

Ví dụ:It is time for me to get to the airport (just in time).(Đã đến lúc tôi cần phải ra sân bay.)

Cấu trúc 2: It is (high/ about) time + S + V(quá khứ đơn) : hơi muộn

Ví dụ:It's high time I left for the airport. (Đã đến lúc phải ra sân bay rồi.) (Hơi muộn rồi.)

Lưu ý: “High/ about” được dùng trước “time” để thêm vào ý nhấn mạnh.

6. Thức giả định với “WISH”

a. Wish + to V. Eg: I wish to pass the entrance exam.(Tôi mong muốn qua được kỳ thi đầu vào.)

-wish somebody something. Eg: I wish you happy birthday. (Tôi chúc bạn sinh nhật vui vẻ.)

-wish somebody to do something. Eg:I wish you to become a good doctor. (Tôi muốn trở thành một bác sĩ
giỏi.)

Lưu ý: Trong trường hợp này, chúng ta có thể thay thế “wish” bằng “want”. hoặc "would like"

Ví dụ: I wish to speak to Ann = I would like/want to speak to Ann.

b. Wish (that)+ subject + past tense/were: thể hiện sự nuối tiếc trong hiện tại, điều không có thật ở hiện
tại)

*,Chú ý: trong câu “wish” không có thật ở hiện tại, dùng “were” nếu là động từ to be cho tất cả các ngôi.

Ví dụ:-I wish I knew his address.(Ước gì tôi biết được địa chỉ của anh ta.)

-I wish I were rich.(Ước gì tôi thật giàu có.)

c. Wish (that) + subject + past perfect: thể hiện sự tiếc nuối trong quá khứ

Ví dụ: I wish I hadn't spent so much money. (Ước gì tôi đã không tiêu nhiều tiền như vậy).

d. Wish (that) + subject + would do something (ước cho tương lai/phàn nàn hoặc muốn thay đổi tình
huống hiện tại)

Ví dụ: I wish it would stop raining hard in summer.(Ước gì vào mùa hè trời không mưa to.)

7. Thức giả định với “As if/as though”

a. As if/as though + simple past/were: diễn đạt hành động không có thật ở hiện tại

Ví dụ: It's very cold today. It looks as if/as though it were autumn now.

(Hôm nay lạnh thật. Cứ như đang là mùa thu vậy.) (Thực ra bây giờ đang là mùa hè.)

b. As if/as though + past perfect: diễn đạt hành động không có thật ở quá khứ

Ví dụ: The whole were seriously damaged. It looks as if it had been destroyed by bombs.

(Toàn bộ khu vực đã bị phá hủy. Nó như thế có vụ nổ bom vậy.)

c. As if/as though + present tense: diễn đạt hành động có thật

Ví dụ: It looks as if he is running from a fierce dog. (Có vẻ như anh ấy đang chạy khỏi con chó dữ.)

Hướng dẫn: Câu thứ 2 sử dụng động từ “wish” nên đây là câu giả định và động từ ở vế sau phải lùi thời. Trong

mệnh đề sau “wish” phải chia thời quá khứ hoàn thành.
