Passage 1:
Vietnam is bordered on the north by China, on the west by Laos and Cambodia, and on the south and
east by the South China Sea.
The country developed as an agricultural society, and the population is still predominantly rural. In
2002, 25 percent of the population lived in urban areas. People are increasingly migrating to cities,
however, swelling the populations of Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, and other places.
Vietnam has about 50 ethnic and language groups, but ethnic Vietnamese, or Kinh, constitute the vast
majority of the population. The original homeland of the Vietnamese was in the valley of the Red River,
a river that originates in southern China and flows through northern Vietnam before entering the Gulf of
Tonkin. China conquered the region in the 2nd century B.C., but the Vietnamese successfully restored
their independence in AD 939. During the next 1,000 years, Vietnam became one of the most dynamic
civilizations in Southeast Asia and expanded southward along the coast.
Passage 2:
Greenhouse Effect is the capacity of certain gases in the atmosphere to trap heat emitted from the
Earth’s surface, thereby insulating and warming the Earth. Without the thermal blanketing of the natural
greenhouse effect, the Earth’s climate would be about 33 Celsius degrees cooler—too cold for most
living organisms to survive.
The greenhouse effect has warmed the Earth for over 4 billion years. Now scientists are growing
increasingly concerned that human activities may be modifying this natural process, with potentially
dangerous consequences. Since the advent of the Industrial Revolution in the 1700s, humans have
devised many inventions that burn fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and natural gas. Burning these fossil
fuels, as well as other activities such as clearing land for agriculture or urban settlements, releases some
of the same gases that trap heat in the atmosphere, including carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous
oxide, causing Earth’s climate to become warmer than it would naturally.

Passage 1:
Tài nguyên nước của Việt Nam đang có dấu hiệu suy thoái, ô nhiễm. Một số khu vực đã xảy ra mưa
axít. Một số nơi, nước bị ô nhiễm cục bộ
Theo đánh giá của các nhà chuyên môn, Việt Nam là quốc gia có lượng mưa trong nước phân bố không
đều theo mùa và theo khu vực, lượng nước mặt dự trữ có tới hơn 2/3 có nguồn từ nước ngoài và lượng
nước dưới đất có dấu hiệu cạn kiệt
Tại hội thảo chiến lược quốc gia về tài nguyên nước đến năm 2020, được tổ chức ngày 1/12 tại Hà Nội,
các nhà chuyên môn nhận định tài nguyên nước của Việt Nam ẩn chứa nhiều yếu tố không bền vững.
Trong khi đó, sự biến đổi khí hấu cũng như thói quen tiêu dùng, khai thác nước đang đặt ra vấn đề về sự
suy kiệt nguồn tài nguyên thiên nhiên quý giá này.
Passage 2:
Thành phố Hạ Long, trước đây là thị xã Hòn Gai, là trung tâm văn hoá, kinh tế, chính trị của tỉnh Quảng
Ninh. Phía đông Hạ Long giáp thị xã Cẩm Phả, tây giáp huyện Yên Hưng, bắc giáp huyện Hoành Bồ,
nam là vịnh Hạ Long với bờ biển dài trên 20 km.
Phía đông thành phố Hạ Long là khu vực phát triển công nghiệp còn khu vực phía tây (Bãi Cháy) là khu
du lịch hoạt động sôi động.
Vịnh Hạ Long nổi tiếng ở trong và ngoài nước và được công nhận là Di sản Thiên nhiên Thế giới với
hàng nghìn hòn đảo kỳ vĩ và sống động. Ngoài ra, thành phố Hạ Long còn có những thắng cảnh và di
tích lịch sử khác làm say lòng du khách trong nước và quốc tế đến thăm.
