This is not a book I had previously used and I do not think it is widely used
in the UK, although it has a large following in the USA. Indeed any text in its
L sixth edition must be doing something right. It has highly-respected editors,
all experienced teachers at Harvard medical school.

The book is divided into 14 chapters, each tackling a radiology subspeciality,

I actually really liked this book, and found little to fault in it. I certainly

found it a lot easier to read and absorb the material than another well-known
benchbook, commonly found in British radiology reporting rooms. This is
clearly not a book designed to be read for pages on end but to be dipped in
and out of as required.
I believe its main weakness, shared by other texts of its type, is a complete
absence of radiological images, and it therefore cannot be used by trainees as
a standalone text. However I think this is much less relevant than it used to
be in view of the contemporaneous excellence of many online resources, such
as Radiopaedia. In addition British readers may find the use of the curie,
rem and rad units a little jarring but I think this is only a minor issue.
Basic bicolour line diagrams are scattered throughout the text and despite
their simplicity I think are remarkably effective in conveying the requisite
information.

text. Our trainees now seem fairly exclusively to use digital versions of the
texts that we used to read on paper. I believe that the book is comprehensive
enough as a main text for core radiology training in the UK and stands its
ground well against its main competitors.
