The pump is required to deliver water from a sump to a reservoir whose level is 60
m above that of the sump. Suction and delivery pipes of 300 mm diameters will
have a combined length of 120 m (ƒ= 0.024) 12 m of which is on the suction side,
and the pump inlet is 3 m above the water level in the sump. What will be the
efficiency and discharge of the pump at the test speed? What would be the most
economical speed to operate the pump and what suction head would occur at the
pump inlet under these optimum speed conditions?

boosting pump station is installed at C half way between A and B. Determine how
many units are required in this pumping station so that the discharge reading B Will
be twice the original discharge reading B. Are these pumps arranged in series or in
parallel and why? Calculated Shp. The performance of one pump is given by:

Two of these pumps are arranged in series and used at the begging of a horizontal
underground pipeline AB of length 100Km at zero static lift. When these pumps
are working together the discharge reading B was 1000 lit/sec. Later on, it was
found that while the two pumps were operating together; the discharge at A was
1250 lit/sec while that reading B was 750 lit/ses. This is obviously due to leakage
in the pipeline.

Working hrs per year as 8000 hrs, the annual cost of pipe line and pump can be
approximated as 500 D (mm) + 10 P(KW) L.E.

prevent cavitation suction level is to be changed, what will be the minimum
allowable level of the suction tank? Estimate the pump shaft power in this case
[ б= 0.25, hatm- hvap= 10 m water]

17)-It is required to lift 100 lit/sec of water from a level 4 m below the pump level.
The water is discharged at pump level directed to the atmosphere with no delivery
pipe. Loss in suction pipe = 1 m of water and kinetic energy is 0.3 m of water.
Atmospheric pressure is 1.03 kg/cm2 and vapor pressure 0.03 kg/cm2.
