BAC SIMULATION EXAM OF ENGLISH

Choose only ONE subject of the following:

Subject 1:

Online commerce has been growing rapidly since the 1990s, and nearly every company of any size has a
website for the sale of its goods. With the anonymity of the Internet, however, it's difficult for a buyer to
really know and trust the seller. If you're getting involved in e-business, keep in mind some basic business
ethics.

It's not hard for computer hackers to access personal information online. Many customers carry out
transactions by filling in forms with personal data. Since customers can't use cash online, and writing or
sending a check is impractical, they use credit cards over the Internet, where it is vulnerable to theft. A debit
card number and expiration can provide direct access to a bank account, although the unauthorized user in
most cases would also need a PIN. To avoid these issues, e-commerce sites need to use updated security
software to encrypt personal information.

Online sellers can sell damaged or counterfeit goods to customers. They may refuse returns or fail to give
credit to the customer who returns the purchase. They may fail to protect goods and refuse to take any
responsibility when the goods are damaged. Unresponsiveness is another common complaint in the e-
commerce world; websites may offer a customer help line but never answer calls or divert the customer to
the wrong number. The ability to create websites within minutes allows unethical people to accept orders,
and money, and then disappear, only to reappear later with the same goods under a different business name
and website.
