The sample has shown that you do have lgG antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus
(the virus which causes Cavid-19) in your
blood. This means that you can be highly confident that you have been infected by
this virus at some time greater than 14 days before
you gave your sample
• Sensitivity. The test has been shown to be 100% sensitive at detecting gG
antibodies in people who have been il from covid
19 at 14 days or more after their first symptoms. Or put another way, there were no
people who had a confirmed coved 19
ness who did not develop igG antibodies (false negatives) 14 days after their first
symptoms.
Specificity: The best has been shown to be 99.63% specific Or put another way,
there were only 0.37% of people who either
gave blood before SARS-CoV-2 or had a respiratory liness that was caused by another
virus who tested positive for g
antibodies (false positives
Are you Immune? The scientists are not yet sure. In general IgG antibodies to a
particular virus usually implies a degree of immunity
to further infection however in the case of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, it is not yet
known to what extent immunity is conferred, and if so for
how long What we can say is that having lgG antibodies to other viruses within the
coronavirus group is associated with at least
short-term immunity to re-infection. However you should continue to follow the
governments guidelines regarding social distancing
and protecting yourself and others against infection. At this moment there is
insufficient scientific knowledge about immunity to the
SARS-CoV-2 virus for you to be confident that you can behave any differently from
someone who has not been infected
