• Therapeutic classification
an antipsychotic medicine that is used to treat schizophrenia in adults and children
at least 13 years old.
Aripiprazole is also used in children 6 years or older who have Tourette's disorder, or
symptoms of autistic disorder (irritability, aggression, mood swings, temper
tantrums, and self-injury).
• Products available
Aripiprazole is primarily available under the brand name Abilify, but there might be
generic versions available as well
Oral Administration
Oral tablets
Oral Solution
25°C (may be exposed to 15–30°C). After opening, can use for up to 6 months (but
not beyond expiration date).
Parenteral
Prefilled dual-chamber syringe: <30°C. Do not freeze. Protect syringe from light;
store in original package until time of use.
• Compatibility
Syringe and IM Injection: Aripiprazole injections are formulated for IM
administration and are compatible with syringe use for this purpose. They are
intended for deep intramuscular injection only.
IV Infusion: Aripiprazole injection is not intended for IV infusion
Y-Site Injection: Since aripiprazole injection is not formulated for IV use, it should
not be administered via Y-site injection into IV lines.
