1. Pursuant to the thrusts and objectives of RA 7079 otherwise known as the


Campus Journalism Act and in preparation for the upcoming Regional and National
Schools Press Conferences, the Schools Division of Palawan announces the conduct of
the 2024 Division Schools Press Conferences (DSPC) for Individual Writing Contest and
Group Contest.
2. The following are the schedule and venue of the contests:

3. This activity aims to:


a. demonstrate understanding of journalism through skillful execution in
various platforms (i.e., print, broadcast, online);
b. recognize the role of journalism in advocating for social consciousness and
environmental issues;
c. promote fair and ethical use of media as tenets of responsible journalism
foster camaraderie and enrich learning experiences trough healthy and
friendly competitions ; and
d. provide learners opportunities to use the skills learned in campus
journalism for their future careers.

4. Eligible DSPC participants shall come from the following:


Individual Category Per School Paper
Group Category 1 team per medium
(Composed of 7 members each team except for online
publishing with 5 members)
School Paper Category Top seven (7) division winners per medium

5. The following will be the individual contests to be conducted online:


i. News Writing (Elem/Sec ) English/Filipino
ii. Editorial Writing (Elem/Sec) English/Filipino
iii. Feature Writing (Elem/Sec) English/Filipino
iv. Sports Writing (Elem/Sec) English/Filipino
v. Editorial Cartooning (Elem/Sec) English/Filipino
vi. Science & Technology Writing (Elem/Sec) English/Filipino
vii. Column Writing (Elem/Sec) English/Filipino
vii. Copyreading and Headline Writing (Elem/Sec) English/Filipino

6. Group contests will be conducted on-site and consist of the following:


i. Radio Scriptwriting and Broadcasting (English and Filipino, Elementary and
Secondary)
ii. Collaborative Desktop Publishing (English and Filipino, Elementary and
Secondary)
iii. Online Publishing ( English and Filipino, Secondary only)
iv. TV Scriptwriting and Broadcasting ( English and Filipino, Secondary only)

v. Photojournalism (English and Filipino, Elementary and Secondary)

7. School Paper Contests ( English and Filipino, Elementary and Secondary in PDF)

8. A campus journalist can participate only in one (1) event, either in an individual
or group category.
9. The top seven (7) winners in all contest events (except for school papers) shall be
recognized. Only the accumulated points from individual and group contests shall be
included in the computation of the overall scores following the guidelines in the attached
DepEd Memorandum No. 24, s. 2023.
10. Since the individual contests shall be done online in the respective districts or
schools as contest areas, District Education Program Supervisors (DEPSs), Public
Schools District Supervisors (PSDSs), and School Heads (SHs) shall take charge of
identifying the contest venue(s). They are expected to ensure the presence of the
following amenities and equipment in the contest venue(s).

1. Four (4) computers or laptops for uploading and saving the pictures
2. One (1) video room for viewing the recorded games;
3. All contest rooms should have audio-visual equipment, such as an LCD, among
others;
4. Projector with an LCD screen and a well-functional sound system.

11. The conduct of DSPC will be done via Google Meet with an open camera. Each
school will be responsible for looking for a strong internet connection. A link will be
provided by the Division Task Force. After the prescribed hour for each category, all
entries shall be scanned, converted into Portable Document Format (PDF), and uploaded
to another link for submission. Results will be announced through a memorandum.

12. The decision of the Board of Judges is final and irrevocable.

13. Top one (1) per category will be the official participant of SDO Palawan in the
Regional Schools Press Conference (RSPC). To ensure fast access to the internet, the top
one (1) participant per category and his/her adviser will proceed to the Schools Division
Office one (1) day before the online contest.

14. The Division Education Program Supervisors (DEPSs) of English and Filipino
shall be the overall in-charge of the online contest administration at the SDO while the
Public Schools District Supervisors (PSDSs) will monitor the overall activity with their
respective district/school.

15. The division personnel and ITO listed below will participate in addressing
technical application issues related to ensuring the effective workflow of the DSPC
online.

16. Specific guidelines and terms of reference during the actual conduct of the DSPC
will be issued on April 11, 2024.

17. Participants are expected to arrive at the venue on April 21 for the Opening
Program at 1:00-3:00 PM. Four (4) snacks and two (2) meals, sponsored by Coral Bay
Nickel Corporation (CBNC) will be served on April 22-23.
18. The program of activities is found in Enclosure No. 1A/1B, while the list of
participating schools is in Enclosure No. 2.
