Time Limits ‘The basketball game consists of four quarters of 10 minutes each Teams play one-way for two quarters, the other way for the next two. There is a two-minute interval between the first and second period and also between the third and fourth period with YQ15 minutes for half time. Coaches can call 02 one minute timeouts at any time during the first half and three timeouts in the second half. The clock stops when the referee's whistle blows. It stays stopped if free throws are being taken and starts again when the ball touches a player on court, so players get a full 40 minutes of actual basketball play 5 Rules. a. The winner of a basketball game is the team with the most points. They will get Point by throwing the basketball through the opponent's hoop or basket. A basket made from within the three point line is worth 2 points and a basket shot from outside the three point line is worth three points. When shooting a free t ‘row, each free throw is worth 1 point. b. After a team gains possession of the ball, they have 24 seconds to shoot. Possession is handed to the other team if they fail to do so. c. When a player has the ball in their own half or ‘backcourt’, they have 8 seconds to move the ball over the halfway line into the ‘frontcourt. Otherwise they will lose possession. 4. Aclosely guarded player holding the ball has 5 seconds to either pass or advance the ball toward the hoop. When called, possession of the ball goes to the opposite team. 2. Aplayer can only be in the opposition’s rectangular ‘key’ area under the basket for 3 seconds. A foul will be called if the player does not leave within those 3 seconds, f The player must bounce or dribble the ball with « 1e hand while moving both feet If at any time, both hands touch the ball or the player stips dribbling, the player must only move one foot. The foot that is stationary is called the pivot foot. g. __The basketball player can only take one turn at dribbling. In other words, once a player has stopped dribbling they cannot start another dribble. A player who starts dribbling again is called for a double-dribbling violation and loses the basketball to the other team. A player can only start another dribble after another player from either team touches or gains control of the basketball. This is usually after a shot or pass. h. The ball must stay in bounds. If the offensive team loses the balll out of bounds the other team gets control of the basketball i. The players hand must be on top of the ball while dribbling. k. Once the offensive team crosses half court, they may not go back into the backcourt. This is called a backcourt violation. If the dei znsive team knocks the ball into the backcourt, then the offensive team can recover the vall legally. I Basketball players cannot kick the ball or hit it with their fist. m. _ No player can touch the basketball while it is traveling downward towards the basket or if itis on the rim, This is called goal tending, 5.
