INTRODUCTION

What is excursion?
An excursion is like going on a special trip or adventure. It's when you leave
your usual place and go somewhere fun or interesting for a little while. It
could be going to a museum, a park, or even to the beach!

Objective of excursion
The primary objective of an excursion is to provide a unique platform for
learning, recreation, relaxation, and exploration outside
of a regular routine or environment. Excursions offer a distinct type of
experience, one that is often more impactful and enduring due to the
immersive nature of the activity. Whether it's a school trip to a museum, a
corporate outing to a retreat, or a family holiday to a beach, excursions serve
as a beneficial divergence from the norm. It’s helps in following:
 Educational Value
 Experimental thinking
 Critical thinking
 Respect for culture
 Communication
 Lifelong memories
In conclusion, excursions play a vital role in personal and professional
development. They are not just an escape from the routine but a unique blend
of education, socialization, health promotion, and cultural appreciation. The
enriching experiences gained from excursions often lead to a more balanced
and insightful understanding of the world around us.

SASYA SHYAMALA KRISHI VIGYAN KENDRA

 KVK is a frontline extension institute established by ICAR, Ministry of ag, GOI


for a district, For transfer of technology in the field of agriculture,
horticulture, animal husbandry aquaculture etc.
 (SSKVK) was established in the year 2013 for the district of South 24
Parganas under the aegis of Ramkrishna Mission Vivekananda
Educational and Research Institute (RKMVERI) as the 2 nd KVK in South
Parganas.
 (SSKVK) is actively engaged in dissemination of technologies to the
farmers, farm women and rural youths and development of South 24
Parganas district.
Mandate of KVK-
 Organization of on- farm trial on farmer’s problem
 Vocational training in agriculture
 Frontline demonstration on (Cereals, Pulses, Oilseeds)
 Other enterprises related to horticulture, apiary, fisheries, animal husbandry
 We were guided by Dr. Anupam Mukherjee (Farm Manager) to the different
branches of agriculture of this campus

In this centre, there are various kinds of units and operations are operated.
 Plant Protection Unit –

In this unit, Anupam sir explained us about the diagnosis of different


diseases, insect infestation, ailments, associated with plants causing
disruption of plant health (fungal, bacterial, viral, nematodes and acarine
arthropods). We also learned about life cycle of various insects, their
management and preparation of Trichogramma and Trichoderma.
 SOIL AND WATER TESTING UNIT –

In this unit, we came to know about the most of problems related to the soil
of that region (Coastal Saline Soil) and the ways to manage it.
Several types of tests such as soil test, compost test, plant test, mineral test,
pH test, micro-nutrient test, macro-nutrient test, etc. were done. This unit also
provides Soil health card by examine the condition of the soil at certain
amount of fee.
It takes approximately 15 days of obtaining soil health card.
 Farm Mechanization unit –

In this unit we were introduced to the paddy transplanter, drum seeder,


combine harvester, etc.
We also saw tillage implements like rotavators, disc ploughs, harrows, etc.
 Seed Processing Unit –

In this unit we had learned about how seed processing unit cleans
seeds by removing trash and stones with pre-cleaners. It also grades
the seeds by their shape and size. There are various steps to be
followed viz. Cleaning (wet and dry), winnowing, sieving, drying, and
also seed treatment is done.
