Bus; WB)
On 28th December we reached Divyayan KVK Ranchi, as the bus was arranged that
would drop us to the Tatanagar Railway Station from Ranchi. We boarded the bus at
7.00 am and it departed from Ranchi.
We reached Tatanagar railway station at about 11 to 11.30 am. The train was 2
hours approx. late, we got into the waiting hall of the Tatanagar station, our teachers
and classmates managed & and cooperated in these situations altogether. We ate
lunch in the Railway canteen at the station, the food was good and hygienic. As the
arrival of our train Humsafar Exp. was announced we moved towards Platform No. 3
as the train was to arrive on that allotted platform number.
The train arrived at about 3.30 pm, we boarded the train, and my coach and seat no.
was (S4-14/upper). The train was empty, there was no crowd and most of the seats
were empty. So, we all went to the seats near our friends. We all enjoyed talking,
playing games, hearing music, and looking out at the beautiful scenery of mountains,
and rivers, we saw an agricultural method- slash and burn method in the field from
the window. We waited for the food item sellers on the train to come, but we could
not find anyone coming except the tea seller. So, I hopped off to the station as we
reached Kharagpur, I purchased some snacks kind of food (chips, cake, etc.) and
boarded the train before it departed from the Kharagpur Station. As we entered the
borders of the Bengal, we saw too many Banana plantations and fishery ponds.
We reached our destination station Santragachi near about 6.15 pm and then we
headed out of the station. The bus that was booked for the Kolkata tour was waiting
near the Bus stand of the Santragachi station.
We boarded on and departed towards the Narendrapur campus. Around 9.00 pm we
reached the Narendrapur, RKMVERI campus. We took out our trolleys from the bus
(only Boys) and moved towards the hostel in which our accommodation place was
arranged (3 nights and 2 days).

Quality Testing Laboratory

The Quality Testing Laboratory (QTL) was established in 2009.

High-Performance Thin-Layer Chromatography is the most advanced form of Thin

Layer Chromatography (TLC) comprising the use of chromatographic layers of utmost
separation efficiency. It employs state-of-the-art instrumentation for all steps including
precise sample application, standardized reproducible chromatogram development, and
software-controlled evaluation.

High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) is a form of column chromatography

that pumps an analyte in a solvent (mobile phase) at high pressure through a column with
chromatographic packing material (stationary phase). It can separate, and identify
compounds that are present in a sample in trace concentrations as low as parts per trillion.
Gas Chromatography (GC) is a form of chromatography used for separating and
analyzing compounds that can be vaporized without decomposition. The mobile phase is
a carrier inert gas, such as helium. The stationary phase is a microscopic layer of liquid
or polymer on an inert solid support, inside a column.

Atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS) is a spectroanalytical technique for

quantitative determination of elements down to (ug dm-3) in a sample using the
absorption of optical radiation (light) by free atoms of the elements in the gaseous state.
MOLECULAR BIOLOGY AND BIOCHEMISTRY LABORATORY

Molecular biology research uses specific techniques conventional to molecular biology

but increasingly combines these with techniques and ideas from an important part of
biotechnology.

In this faculty center, as part of the M.Sc. Agricultural Biotechnology course, a

molecular biology laboratory is established which is well-equipped and properly
maintained. It is equipped with a thermal cycler, gel electrophoresis systems, gel
documentation system, UV spectrophotometer, etc. Ongoing work includes molecular
characterization of bamboo, salinity stress tolerance in different crops, and the effect of
phytochemicals in cancer cells. Molecular characterization of microbes (bacteria, fungus,
and actinomycetes) is also undergoing in this laboratory.

TISSUE CULTURE LABORATORY

Plant Tissue Culture Laboratory, now working under Dean, is one of the most promising
sectors of modern biotechnology. The vitro propagation of plant part (explant) in the
artificial medium under aseptic conditions is termed as plant tissue culture.

In this faculty center, as a part of the M.Sc Agricultural Biotechnology course, a plant
tissue culture laboratory is established which is well equipped and properly maintained.
Media for Banana [Musa acuminata, mainly Grand Nain (G9) ], Sarpagandha (Rauwolfia
serpentina), Ashwagandha (Withania somnefera), Aloe-vera (Aloe indica), Brahmi
(Bacopa Monnieri), Antomul(Tylophola indica), Bamboo (Dendrocalamus asper and
Bambusa balcooa), Mulberry (Moms alba) are already standardized using Murashige and
Skoog (1962) media, containing different types of phytohormones.

The tissue culture techniques: Meristem culture, shoot tip culture, anther culture, callus
culture, and embryo rescue are widely used for in vitro cultivation of plants. Current
project ongoing project entitled “National Horticulture Mission (NHM)” funded by Govt. of
West Bengal, is carried out in this laboratory to provide tissue culture-raised Banana
(G9 variety) plants to farmers.

An ongoing project entitled ‘Research and raising of Arabian date tissue cultured sapling’

I can conclude that the Plant Tissue Culture Laboratory was the best of all.

Next, we visited the Post Harvest Section-
