CONGRESSIONAL QUALIFYING MEET 2024: A STORY OF TRIUMPH TOWARDS

SUCCESS

Athletes from three neighboring municipalities of Cataingan, Dimasalang, Palanas


and Uson compete in the Congressional Qualifying Meet 2024 on February 17-18,
2024 at Cataingan National High School, Cataingan, Masbate

Maravilla National High School coaches, specifically of both tracks and wrestling
addressed the teachers and students present during the competition for supporting
the participants of Maravilla National High School, acknowledging the vigorous
participation of all student-athletes.

The said competition was held in different venues, as tournament officials just
depended on where the game could be played based on its availability. Some of the
games are played at the wide, open oval tracks of Cataingan National High School.
On the other hand, boxing was loudly conducted at Badiang National High School,
where most of the school players competed against Rondina-Atendido National High
School and the host school.

The annual sports congregation ended by having the Municipality of Dimasalang as


the overall champion with a total of 119 medals (59 gold, 37 silver, and 23 bronze) ,
Municipality of Cataingan takes the second place with 106 medals (44 gold, 37 silver
and 25 bronze), our very own Municipality of Palanas is third with a total of 84
medals (22 gold, 28 silver and 34 bronze), standing in the 4 th place is the Municipality
of Uson with 62 medals (8 gold, 26 silver and 28 bronze), respectively.

Maravilla National High School brought home the gold medal and contributed to
Palanas’s 22 gold medals as Rodel Atendido defeated the contingents from
Cataingan and Dimasalang in the 1500-meter run event. Furthermore, Ariel S. Arcipe,
a former MNHS student, now a talent of Bibiano A. Avenir Parina Integrated School
bagged the gold medal in 3000-meter run event, another talented sprinter from our
municipality, Jaymar S. Arrogante from Salvacion NHS secured a gold medal in the
5000-meter run event. Mr. Jonathan Cadiz, the winning coach and an MNHS teacher,
honed our active sprinters to the qualifying meet. They served as our qualifiers in
athletics to the 2024 Provincial Athletic Meet at Cawayan, Masbate, to be held later
this year.

In an interview Atendido said " Diri niya kami ginapabayaan sa training kag upod
siya sa amon sa pagjogging", he is grateful to his coach. He added " Pakadto namon
sa Cataingan gikulbaan ako kay kita ko sa akon mga kalaban na batak sa training".
He faced struggles and felt pressured before getting the success in his battle.

All of the athletes and coaches represented their respective municipalities with flying
colors and admiration. the To those who did not win, don't stop trying and continue
to strive. As Kobe Bryant mentioned, the moment you give up is the moment you let
someone else win.
