INTRODUCTION

This School Based Assessment for Physical Education and Sports instructed
that students host a competition, which was a knockout netball competition.
In the competition each student must have a role and responsibilities as an
official as in any mandatory competition. The students were responsible to
manage all aspects of the competition, from planning games to organising an
award ceremony.
For the School Based Assessment the class was given a sport to be
brought out for the assessment. Netball was chosen for by the teachers
which was more manageable for the students and the teachers Each member
of the class was responsible for a certain aspect of the competition.
The competition involved students from first (1st) form to sixth(6th) form , as
they were eager to participate in the competition.
Throughout the duration of the competition, each student was required to
fulfil the responsibilities of their respective role and report on what they had
done. My School`s Based Assessment is on a secretarial role.
SECTION 1
RESPONSIBILITY OF ROLE

During our Netball competition and fundraiser for our CXC School Based
Assessment, those in the group and class of physical education were
assigned to different roles. And my role was being a Secretary for the entire
function.

My responsibility was to organise and prepare documents and information

gathered and to give necessary output of what was received and understood.
Buying, selling, and gaining during the fundraiser was my responsibility to
make sure everything was in place and properly organised. Also organising
the competition and taking notes before, during, and after the competition.
Even with cleaning the court once used.
REASONS FOR CHOOSING ROLE

The reason for receiving this role was to help with my focus and help others
get things properly organised at the right time,

●Plan, organise those participating in the game

●Keeping track and notes of necessary data
●Collect data before, during and after the game
●Coordinate the provision of awards and achievements
SECTION 2

BEFORE THE EVENT

The first task carried out before the event was selecting a sport. Netball
was the sport selected because it was more manageable. We then selected
the appropriate time and venue for the competition, after which we selected
a fundraising activity which was carried out on January 12, 2024 and January
15 2024.
Approximately two letters were written to the vice Principal Mr Smith
(V.P of sports) requesting to conduct a fundraising activity and to conduct the
netball competition on campus. Other letters were issued to several
departments requesting different equipment needed for the competition.
During the writing and issuing of the letter, coaches selected their teams.
After receiving approval, the teacher (Ms Hyman), the director (Brenton
Lewis) and myself went ahead and bought the different prizes and issued a
certificate for the top coach award.

DURING THE EVENT

The competition lasted 1 day, with the competition consisting of 6 teams. On
that day of the competition, the researchers sat in waiting to assist he score
keepers if they needed help. The equipment managers collected the
necessary equipment requested from the physical education departments
and made the final preparation for the event. The matches were slow burning
yet were very heated. Starting with the teams blue dodgers and shooting
star with shooting star being the winners

Venom were supposed to be up against dark vader but were disqualified due
to there members not being sufficient and not being on time for the game.

The losing teams played for third and fourth place, while the winning team
played for first and second place. During the event 3 persons got injured with
bruises. It was not a severe and tough bruise so it was brushed off by the
player.

During the game I the secretary took notes and the score manager, other
managers and the director took notes throughout the games.

AFTER THE EVENT

After the event the achievements were issued to the participants. They 1st
place team received a trophy and medals. The 2nd place team received a
small trophy and medals. And the 3rd place team received medals. The
equipment were returned to the physical education department.

Discussions about the competition we discussed congratulated the 1st and

2nd winners with cakes and also the staff celebrated with a cakes for
themselves.
SECTION 3

LIMITATIONS
●Not having a more organise team managing
●Not having a more proportional secretary information carried out
●Competitions and fundraiser kept being put off due to unpreparedness
●Not having time to prepare due to other school activities.

FINDINGS
●Throughout the survey and searching for players, grade 12 did not represent and play
in the competition
●Through the team work we were able to carry the competition as decent as possible
●Most managers were not active for their team

Throughout the games, the realisation of netball being a great sport came to
mind and most difficulties and carrying out the game itself.

During the competition we could see that the players had a fun time were
very excellent in the games. These players could even apply to he netball
team to how good they are

RECOMMENDATIONS

● Better secretarial work could have been implemented

● Proper and well done meetings should have been issued
● The event should have been advertised properly
● Proper and adequate research on individual responsibilities and roles before the
competition

PERSONAL REFLECTION

Our SBA report could have been displayed with more clarity, accuracy,
which are all essential qualities for effective communication.
It was really a great experience to work on and it took me a while to try
and gather all the necessary information and guidelines to write up this
assessment. It also took some time to get the appropriate pictures to include
in the SBA.
The introduction provides a concise overview of the netball competition, and
the section on the event highlights its exciting aspects. In conclusion, my
classmates did very well to execute this competition and we had fun doing
so.
This summarises the key points and applauds the performance of the group
members. Your participation as a secretary reflects your commitment to the
endeavour. Ultimately, my report effectively encapsulates the positive
experience of hosting a netball competition.

Changes in proper research and proper organising could have been

implemented, such as researching more about the sport, having scheduled
meetings, and having the notes and tasks properly executed.

My views on the teams that some were organised properly whilst some were
not, which venom the team were disqualified due to poor management.

SUMMARY
A netball competition was conducted by the grade eleven Physical Education
Pool 5 School Based Assessment group. Several pieces of equipment were
provided by the physical education department of the school. Each
participant carried out their roles and responsibilities given to them which
resulted in a well done competition. Several challenges occurred resulting in
some minor setbacks throughout the whole assessment.

Each team played to the best of their abilities, allowing the participants to
enjoy themselves, also entertaining the spectators.

The 2 teams that were meant to play first which were shooting star and
venom, the team venom and its coaches and manager could not execute their
play how they should, they were withdrawn from the match causing them to
fall out of the competition putting shooting ahead and up against sharp
shooter.

The most exciting match of them was the match between dark vador and
blue dodgers, most were rooting for blue dodgers due to their elite training
and excellent coach. Dark vador also had an excellent team and excellent
coach and through cheers and ups and downs, dark vador came on top with
and excellent execution.

Most managers and teams were not very active in the competition, even so,
the competition was still a success.

Dear Mr. Smith

On behalf of the Physical Education pool 5 CXC group, we are seeking
permission to host a Netball Competition at this school, Knox College on
January, 17, Wednesday, 2024, for us students’ general Caribbean
Examination Council (CXC) and School Based Assessment (SBA).
We would like to run this competition from the periods of lunchtime to
the homeroom sessions. The competition will include two (2) students from
each grade level for each team to commence this activity. The reason for this
is to not disrupt classes by having one (1) set of students leave a classroom
session at that time. We also ask permission to use the netball courts for this
competition to be played on. The competition will acquire prizes containing
first (1st) and second place (2nd) winners for the prizes. We the students
would love the competition to be successfully executed, and in doing so we
will need your help, permission, and cooperation. Hosting this competition
will benefit us students in our Caribbean Examination Council (CXC) and
general School Based Assessment (SBA) and those hosting and participating
in these events.
We thank you for your cooperation.

Thank you,
Yours truly S. Johnson Selena Johnson

HISTORY OF NETBALL
The history of netball can be traced back to the early development of
basketball. A year after he invented basketball in 1891, the sport was
adapted for women in line with conventional wisdom about participation in
the sport, and women's basketball was born. The sport was modified for
women to accommodate social conventions regarding their participation in
sport, giving rise to women's basketball. The first codified rules of netball
were published at the start of the twentieth century, and from there the new
sport spread throughout the British Empire.

Early netball game in Queensland, Australia. The players are wearing

gymslips, which were common attire for netballers throughout much of the
early 20th century. From the beginning, netball was widely accepted as a
sport suitable for women. Domestic netball competitions arose in several
countries during the first half of the 20th century. Starting from the 1920s,
national associations were formed to organise the sport in netball-playing
nations. International matches were played sporadically in the early 20th
century but were hampered by varying rules in different countries.

By 1960, the rules of netball were standardised internationally and an

international governing body was formed to oversee the sport globally.
Initially called the International Netball Federation (INF), the organisation
was later renamed World Netball. The second half of the 20th century saw
international competition expand, with the sport's premier international
competition, the INF Netball World Cup, starting in 1963. Netball has also
been contested at the Commonwealth Games since 1998.
