INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS ‫ﺍﻟﺗﺭﻛﻳﺏ ﺗﻌﻠﻳﻣﺎﺕ‬

Product Name: MEMF-PM-OD-15kV-500

Premoulded Outdoor Termination for 3 core polymeric insulated cable, with
Cu wires screen and un-armour

Rated voltage : 8.7/15(17.5kV)

For section conductors (mm2): 3x 500Al

PRELIMINARY OPERATIONS
 Equipping the work-yard and operators (qualified for the use of high voltage electrical equipment) of the devices
required by the applicable safety regulations in the workplace, with particular reference to the construction or
maintenance of electrical infrastructure networks.
 Check the suitability of the kit with respect to the cable types and conductor cross-sections.
 Check the availability of all the tools necessary for proper jointing
GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS

Clean and degrease all parts that will need to be in contact with the heat shrinkable adhesive. Preferably use a
propane gas torch adjusted so as to obtain a non-concentrated flame and with the yellow front. Keep the flame at the
right distance and in continuous motion to avoid burns. Make sure that the tube is uniformly shrunk on its
circumference.
After shrinking, the tube surface should be smooth, without wrinkles and the profiles of the coated parts must be well-
evident. Otherwise, it is necessary to make more heat.

CABLE PREPARATION

STEP(1) CABLE TREATMENT

Clean the outer sheath & insert the transparent
heat shrink tube on to the cable which is used for
sealing ID card after the installation complete.

1.1 Cutting the cable outer sheath 800~1200mm

long from the end.
1.2 Keep 25mm long armor tape from the cable
outer sheath cutting point and remove the rest.
Smooth the armor tape especially the cutting point
by file.
1.3 Keep 10mm long inner sheath from cable
armor tape cutting point and remove the rest as
well as the filling components. Please be careful
when cutting the inner sheath to avoid damage the
copper screen wire.
1.4 Using PVC tape to wrap the cable cooper
screen wire end temporarily

1.5 Using spring clamp (φ50) to fix the grounding
strip on the cable armor tape end. Part of the
grounding strip need to be folded and clipped by
the spring clamp.
Note: the grounding strip is for the use of
grounding the armor tape.

1.6 Using white filling mastic to warp and cover the

cable armor tape end and spring clamp. shield,
then fold back the rest wires, ready for grounding.
1.7 loose the cooper shield wire and leave 3- or 4-
piece copper screen wire and the copper stripe as
each phase

1.8 Wrap red sealing mastic with 30mm width.

1.9 Pull the breakout down to the crotch then
shrink it into place.
1.10 Put the shrink tube onto three cores
separately, then shrink it into place

STEP(2) INSTALLATION OF PRE-MOLDED TERMINATION

2.1 Cut the cable as per actual installation length, and then measure the cable as per the dimension in figure 5 and mark
it with PVC tape. Removing the heat shrinkable tube and expose the cooper screen wire.
2.2 Keep 20mm length cooper screen wire and remove the rest.
2.3 Remove the cable semi-conductive layer as per dimension on the above figure 5.

2.4 Remove cable insulation layer as per the dimension in figure 5 and chamfering the cutting end.
2.5 Use PVC tape to wrap the conductor, keeping it from dirt and dust as per Figure 6

2.6 Use abrasive paper to grind the cable insulation layer, keeping it smooth.
2.7 Use semi conductive mastic to cove the remaining wire screen from the (315mm from the top) position with a width of
20mm the thickness will be around 2mm
2.8 Wrap the range of 10 mm from the end of outer sheath with red sealing Mastic. The total thickness will be around 3
mm.

2.9 Use PVC tape to mark the termination installation point as per the dimension in figure 8

2.10 Clean insulation layer with cleaning tissue, putting silicone grease on the insulation layer and termination inner hole
and push the termination to the cable until reaching to the position mark.
2.11 Remove the PVC tape accordingly.

2.12 Compress the terminal lugs onto the conductor.
Abrade and clean the lug with the abrasive paper with the kit. Avoiding any sharp edges.

2.13 Fill the gap between cable lug and outdoor termination with waterproof sealing mastic

2.14 Put heat shrink tube and cover the connection part between outdoor termination and cable lug, shrinking it into place

4|Page
2.15 As per Figure 14, fix cable bracket onto a
pole, respectively put three insulators in three
fixing holes on the cable bracket and then tighten
them up.
2.16. Align fixing hole of tri phase outdoor
termination and cable lug of overhead conductor
with bolts of respective insulators and then tighten
them up with screws.

2.17 Paste the ID card on the cable under the

breakout or lower position, Use transparent heat
shrink tube to cover the ID card and properly
shrink it into place.
Work is finished.

Before leaving the work-place, sort out the left

materials to differentiate them by type and
nature and then get rid of them in the most
appropriate way.
