General Biology II
Activity 4.1: Plant and Animal System --- Sexual and Asexual Reproduction
Name: ____________________________________________ Date: ____________ Section: __________
I. Objectives
At the end of the activity, the students should be able to:
Differentiate sexual and asexual reproduction: and
Describe different modes of sexual and asexual reproduction.

II. Introduction

One of the most important concepts in biology is reproduction, a biological process in which organisms produce more of their
kind. This process enables and ensures the continuity of species, generation after generation. Different organisms use different modes
of reproduction depending on the complexity of their form and structure. There are two main forms of reproduction: sexual and asexual
reproduction.

Part I. Asexual vs. Sexual Reproduction

Directions: Differentiate asexual from sexual reproduction by completing the table.

Asexual Reproduction Sexual Reproduction

Number of Parents Involved

Genetic Composition of Offspring

Examples of plants/animals that

reproduce through this method

Part II. Types of Asexual and Asexual Reproduction in Animals

Directions: Identify whether the mode of reproduction is sexual or asexual. Put a check (/) on the appropriate column. Then, briefly
describe and give examples for each.

Mode of Reproduction Sexual Asexual Brief description Examples

External Fertilization

Parthenogenesis

Fission

Fragmentation
