INTRODUCING JESUS: HIS PERSON AND MISSION

Information:
Jesus as a person
Jesus was born in humble circumstances. He was born to the Virgin Mary in a humble
village situated in a distant region of the world. Even though He was the Son of God
with infinite knowledge and power, He was still mortal and susceptible to hunger and
pain.

He experienced the challenges and sorrows of life.

Similar to what mortals feel, during His journey in the wilderness and fasting for 40
days, He was tempted by the devil and overcame that temptation.

Although He was born without sin, He was baptized in the River of Jordan to teach us
obedience to God.

Both Matthew and Luke have accounts for Jesus' genealogy. Matthew begins with
Abraham and follows by listing 41 generations of fathers, ending in the passage of
Matthew 1:16: “And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born
Jesus, who is called Christ.” On the other hand, Luke's account of Jesus' genealogy
starts with Christ, tracing His roots back 77 generations all the way to Adam, the first
son of God. Although the lineage is Mary's line, it is recorded with Joseph's name.

The Mission of Jesus

As foretold by the prophet Isaiah, He came to earth to preach the Good News and save
humanity from original sin.
His Three-fold Mission
1. Prophet - He was sent to be God’s messenger and share the Good News.
2. Priest - He was sent to be the bridge/mediator between God and humanity
3. King - He was sent to be the overseer of those who seek Him and served saints
and sinners alike as a means to exercise his royal office.
