BANGALORE EAST
Class: X (2021-22)
SCIENCE
PERIODIC TEST-III
DATE:19-01-2022 TIME: 90 MINS
MAX MARKS: 40

General Instruction:
(i) The question paper comprises of three sections A, B and C. There are 13
questions in the question paper. All questions are compulsory.
(ii) Section A – Question no. 1 to 5 are very short answer and assertion reason
type questions carrying 2 marks each. Answers to these questions should
be in the range of 30 to 50 words.
(iii) Section B - Question no. 6 to 10 are short answer type questions, carrying
3 marks each. Answers to these questions should be in the range of 50 to
80 words.
(iv) Section C - Question no. – 11 to 13 are long answer type questions carrying
5 marks each. Answer to these questions should be in the range of 80 to
120 words.
(v) Wherever necessary, neat and properly labelled diagrams should be
drawn.
SECTION – A (5X2=10)
1. Two organic compounds A and B have the same molecular formula C6H12. Write the names
and structural formulae:
(a) if A is a cyclic(ring) compound
(b) if B is a straight chain compound

2. Magnetic field lines are shown in the given diagram. A student makes a statement that
magnetic field at X is stronger than at Y. Justify this statement. Also redraw the diagram and
mark the direction of magnetic field lines.

3. What is a solenoid? Draw the magnetic field lines pattern of a current carrying solenoid.
4. A compass needle is placed near a current carrying wire. State your observations for the
following cases, and give reason for the same in each case.
(a) Magnitude of electric current in wire is increased.
(b) The compass needle is displaced away from the wire.

5. For the following questions two statements are given-one labelled Assertion (A) and the other
labelled Reason (R). Select the correct answer to these questions from the codes (a), (b), (c)
and (d) as given below:
(a) Both (A) and (R) are true and (R) is correct explanation of the assertion.
(b) Both (A) and (R) are true and (R) is not the correct explanation of the
assertion.
(c) (A) is true but (R) is false.
(d) (A) is false but (R) is true.
1. Assertion (A): Pollen grains are produced by all flowers.
Reason (R): Stamen is the male reproductive part of a flower and produces
pollen grains.
2. Assertion (A): Variation is useful for the survival of species over time.
Reason (R): Populations of organisms fill well-defined places in the
ecosystem, using their ability to reproduce.

SECTION –B (5X3=15)
6. (a) Categorize the following molecular formulae of hydrocarbons into saturated
and unsaturated: C5H8 ; C7H14 ; C2H6 ; C5H10 (2)
(b) Write the molecular and structural formula of benzene. (1)

7. (a) Students visits the school garden and finds colorful flowers and some bees. Explain the
type of pollination and give example with this case. (2)
(b) Draw a neat labelled diagram of a modified shoot which helps in reproduction?
(1)

8. PQ is a current carrying conductor in the plane of the paper as shown in the figure
below.
(a) Find the directions of the magnetic fields produced by it at points R and S? (1)
(b) Given r1> r2, where will the strength of the magnetic field be larger? Give reasons.
(1)
(c) If the polarity of the battery connected to the wire is reversed, how would the direction of
the magnetic field be changed? (1)

9. Answer the following questions based on human reproductive system:

(a) Give the sequential pathway of movement of sperms for fertilization. (1)
(b) What happens if sperm does not enter when ova is in the fallopian tube? (1)
(c) Differentiate between vasectomy and tubectomy. (1)

10. In our country the legally prescribed minimum age for marriage is 18 years for females and
21 years for males.
(a) Why is it essential to fix the minimum age for marriage? Give two reasons to justify your
answer. (1)
(b) Does use of condoms prevents STD’s? Comment. (1)
(c) What happens to ovary, and ovule after fertilization? (1)

SECTION – C (3X5=15)
11. Rohan’s friend gifted him a beautiful plant. He liked it so much that he wanted to make more
plants of the same kind. He asked his teacher about the process of raising plants. Teacher
explains the process of raising plants without fertilization in less time to Rohan to raise the
plants.

(a) Name the process which was explained by his teacher. (1)
(b) The small group of cells which was grown in this process were called .
(1)
(c) This method can be commonly used for which type of plants? (1)
(d) What are the advantages of growing plants by this method? (1)
(e) Name and draw a neat labelled diagram of any one of the methods of
above said reproduction type. (1)

12. (a) The magnetic field associated with a current carrying straight conductor is in anticlockwise
direction. If the conductor was held along the east-west direction, what will be the direction
of current through it? Name and state the rule applied to determine the direction of current.
(3)
(b)How is induced current in a secondary coil related to the current flowing in the primary
coil? (1)
(c) What is the role of split rings in an electric motor? (1)
