B. REVIEW OF THE PREVIOUS TOPIC

What was our previous topic?
When we talk about Hypothesis what does it mean? How about Hypothesis
Testing?
C. MOTIVATION
Last 2019, our country experienced such dangerous and deadly virus which is
Corona Virus or we called it Covid-19. What do you observed in your
surroundings? News all over televisions and headlines right? What do you think
was the effect of this virus spreading our country? How about the people
positive in Covid-19? How about our Front liners?

D. DEVELOPMENTAL ACTIVITIES
a. Presentation of the Topic
In relation to the questions awhile ago, we still talk about Hypothesis
testing. We say Hypothesis Testing – is the validity of the statistical
Hypothesis based on random sample drawn from the population. Our new
topic is all about Testing the Hypothesis on the Population Proportion.

b. Discussion and Analysis

In testing the hypothesis on the population proportion we must consider first
the following steps:
5 Steps in Solving Problems for a Test Hypothesis on the Population
Proportion
1. State the null Ho : p = po
and alternative Ha : p < po or
hypothesis
Ha : p > po or
Ha : p ≠ po
2. Choose the a = 0.01, a = 0.05, a = 0.025,
Level of a = 0.10
Significance
3. Calculate the Use the formula:
appropriate ^p = x/n, Zcom= ^p-p
Statistics √p (1-p)
N
Where: ^p – sample proportion
p- population proportion
n- sample size
x- population given
4. Determine the Type of Level of Significance
Critical Value Test
or Z-critical
a = a = a = a =
1% 2.5 5% 10%
%
One c = c = c = c =
Tailed ± ± ± ±
Test (=) 2.32 1.96 1.64 1.28
6 0 5

Two c = c = c = c =
Decision Tailed ± ± ± ±
Test(>,<, 2.57 2.32 1.96 1.64
≠) 5 6 0 5
The decision will be either to reject or fail to reject the
null hypothesis Ho.

Reject if it falls to rejection area

Fail to reject the null hypothesis H o if it falls to the
acceptance region.

5. Conclusion Remember this three:

 If the computed Z-statistics (Zcom) is > < the
critical value (Zcritical), reject the null
hypothesis (Ho). Two tailed Test
 If the computed Z-statistics (Zcom) falls in the
ejection region reject the null hypothesis (Ho).
 If the computed Z-statistics (Zcom) does not fall
in the rejection region, fail to reject the null
hypothesis(Ho).

Example 1.
A sample of 120 students is randomly selected from Makilala National High
School and 21 of them said that they are left handed. Test the hypothesis that less than
20% of the students are left handed by using a= 0.05 level of significance.
By following the steps above:
1) State the null and alternative hypothesis Ho : p = 0.22, Ha : p < 0.22
2) Choose the Level of Significance a= 0.05
3) Calculate the appropriate Statistics
Given: x= 21 p= 0.22 n= 120
Solution:
^p = x/n = 21/120= 0.175
Zcom= ^p-p Zcom= 0.175-0.22 Zcom = -1.190
√p (1-p) √0.22 (0.78)
N 12

4. Critical Value : (Refer to the table above) for 5% level of significance we have
Zcritical = -1.645

Z value is -1.190 while Zcritical is -1.645 therefore -1.190 > -1.645 (see attached
figure)
5. Conclusion
Therefore we conclude that at 0.05 level of significance there is enough evidence
less 22% of the students are left handed.

c. Group Activity
I will group the class to analyze and answer the problem using the 5Steps to
solve the hypothesis on the population proportion. Each representative of
the group will present their answers on the board.
PROBLEM:
A politician claims that she will receive 60% of the votes in the
upcoming election of a random sample of 200 voters, there were 100 who
will surely vote for her. Test the politician assertion at 0.05 level of
significance.

GROUP 1 – present the step 1 and 2

GROUP 2 - present the 3 and 4
GROUP 3 – present the decision in step 4 and also the conclusion

d. Generalization
What are the Five steps in Solving Problems for a Test Hypothesis on the
Population Proportion?

IV. EVALUATION
In your 1 whole sheet of paper, answer the problem using the Five steps in Solving
Problems for a Test Hypothesis on the Population Proportion.
PROBLEM:
A research states that 28% of college degrees are from engineering courses. A
researcher doesn’t believe that this is correct. A sample of 500 graduates was used
and it was found out that 95 have finished engineering courses. Test the claim if it
has increased at a=0.10 level of significance.

V. ASSIGNMENT
Study about “FORMULATING APPROPRIATE NULL AND
ALTERNATIVE HYPOTHESES ON A POPULATION PROPORTION”
