1.0 SCOPE
This TMSS shall also be read in conjunction with SEC Transmission Purchase Order
or Contract Schedules for project, as applicable.
The latest revision/amendments of the Codes and Standards listed hereunder shall be
applicable for the equipment/material covered in this specification. In case of conflict,
the vendor/manufacturer may propose equipment/materials conforming to one group
of Industry Codes and Standards quoted hereunder without jeopardizing the
requirements of this TMSS.
4.1 General
4.2.1 The compression connectors shall be designed for use on the type of
overhead bare conductors as specified in the Data Schedule.
a. Dead-end Connectors
b. Mid Span Splice Connectors
c. Repair Sleeve Connectors
d. Tee Tap Connectors
e. Jumper connectors
4.2.5 The design of dead ends shall be such as to facilitate the formation
and fitting of jumper loops for the electrical or mechanical continuity
of the conductor or shield wire. The design of all compression
fittings (tension clamp and tension splices and compression type
repair sleeves) shall be such that only one pair of dies is necessary for
each size of conductor.
4.3 Ratings
4.4 Materials
4.4.2 The steel metal parts of the compression dead-end and mid span
splice shall be made from forged steel.
4.4.3 Nuts, bolts, and washers to connect jumper terminal pad with the
dead-end compression terminal pad shall be made of aluminum or
stainless steel. The bolts, nuts and washers shall be of minimum 12
mm diameter.
4.4.4 The steel metal parts shall be galvanized in accordance with General
Specification 01-TMSS-01.
4.4.5 The aluminum metal parts shall be anodic oxide coated in accordance
with ASTM B580.
4.5 Fabrication
4.5.1 The compression dead-end and mid span splice for ACSR/AW type
conductors shall be of two-piece compression type consisting of inner
steel sleeve for joining steel core and an outer aluminum sleeve for
connecting aluminum strands. The aluminum sleeve shall be
provided with filler hole and aluminum plug for filler (oxide
inhibiting or sealing) compound. Appropriate filler compound shall
be supplied as part of the compression connectors.
4.5.2 The compression dead-end and mid span splice for ACAR type
conductors shall be of one-piece compression type and shall be
prefilled with an appropriate filler (oxide inhibiting or sealing)
compound and capped.
4.5.4 The jumper sleeve shall be one piece compression type, prefilled with
an appropriate filler (oxide inhibiting or sealing) compound and
capped. It shall be possible to use any jumper terminal with any
dead-end terminal pad, and to connect the two-bolt pads with four-
bolt pads.
4.5.5 The compression type repair sleeve shall consist of interlocking body
and keeper parts when compressed. This shall provide locking against
relaxation of the parts, resulting in a permanent grip on the
conductors.
leaving the accessory and that the conductor stresses caused from
bending and vbration are reduced to a minimum.
4.5.9 Where mating surfaces of jumper termials are to be bolted to the main
body of the tension clamp, they shall be factory protected by
removable plastic or other means acceptable to SEC.
4.6 Markings
5.0 TESTS
All test results shall be provided for review and acceptance by SEC.
In lieu of the actual type tests, certified test reports of tests performed
on an identical unit may be submitted to SEC for review and approval
during the bidding stage.
a. Resistance Test
Sample tests to be carried out on the compression connectors shall include but
not be limited to the following:
5.2.3 Dimensional tests: These shall include length and diameter of the
connectors before and after compression and percentage elongation.
