Session 2:

Sustainable Development Goals

Our Modus Vivendi Contribution and
Adoption

mGBC SDG Taskforce 2022

Sustainable Development Goals
The Sustainable Development Goals are a collection of 17 sustainable global
goals. The SDGs were adopted by all United Nations Member States.
The SDGs were adopted in 2015 in the United Nations General Assembly and
aimed to be achieved by the year 2030
Sustainable Development Goals
Sustainable Development is defined as “meeting the needs of the present
without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.”

There are 17 global goals which are structured into 169 ambitious targets.

Sustainable Development Goals is the framework for organisations,

institutions, and governance to work towards a more sustainable world.

It is now 2022, 2030 is 8 years away, and we are still far from achieving the
global target of the Sustainable Development Goals. Being a part of, aligning and
contributing towards the SDGs is imperative to achieve the targets.
General Misunderstanding on the Sustainable
Development Goals

1. Only the government and the public sector are expected to

establish and implement strategies according to the framework.

2. Corporations, Businesses and Non Governmental Organisations

are not consequential to achieve the SDGs goals, thus are
spared from aligning to the Sustainable Development Goals.

3. Public is not relevant to the SDGs in terms of directly influencing

the outcome of the target goals.
Malaysia and SDG
1. SDGs are not legally binding, governments of the United Nation
member countries are expected to take ownership and establish
national frameworks for the achievement of the 17 Goals by
2030.

2. Member countries are responsible for pursuing and reviewing the

progress made in implementing the SDGs

3. Economic Planning Unit (EPU) is the focal point for Sustainable

Development (SD) and is the coordinating agency on everything
sustainable development including the Sustainable Development
Goals (SDGs).

easier to obtain green financing which are offered by financial
institutions.
Malaysian Corporations and SDG
