EDUCATION 242 / 254 (STATISTICAL METHODS IN EDUCATION)

Course Description: This course is intended to equip graduate students with the necessary knowledge and understanding of
the basic concepts and principles of Statistics which is an essential tool for educational research. It also
provides the necessary skills in analysis and interpretation of data using of some statistical softwares
in conducting graduate research paper.

Course Objectives: After undergoing all the activities of the course, the students must have:

1. gained deeper understanding of basic concepts of Statistics; its scope, purposes, and importance to
humanity;
2. distinguished different types of data according to the levels of measurement, and its purpose;
3. identified the different measures of central tendency and variation and its applications;
4. determined the appropriate sample size in conducting research by using different sampling
techniques and procedures and formulate data gathering instruments based on the knowledge of data
collection and instrumentation;
5. formulated appropriate hypothesis which could serve as a guide in the choice of the research design;
6. demonstrated understanding of data processing and statistical treatment using the ANOVA and some
design of experiments;
7. formulated generalization based on the interpretation and analysis of results using the concept of
correlation and regression;
8. identified the different nonparametric statistics appropriate for distribution free data;
9. applied the use of statistical softwares in data analysis and develop techniques in interpreting
computer generated data;
10. manifested appreciation of the important role that Statistics play in educational researches as shown
in graduate students use of research findings in their chosen fields of discipline.
