“Disposition of World War II Armed Forces Dead”

Foreword
by Alain S. Batens:

This pamphlet, a small format (approximately 8.50 cm x 14.20 cm) pocket version, is a document produced by the War Department and is-
sued by the Quartermaster Corps in 1946. It is intended for the guidance of the next-of-kin of all World War 2 Armed Forces Dead, buried
overseas, i.e. outside the United States. This handy booklet explains the War Department Program covering the disposition of the remains
of those Americans who made the supreme sacrifice during World War 2. It defines next-of-kin, explains the option to bury the remains in a
permanent American Military Cemetery overseas, or return them to the United States, and also indicates the various Government Offices
where to forward inquiries. The pamphlet was prepared by the U.S. Government Printing Office and is dated 1946.

The pamphlet is offered here in paper form. The original used in the production of this document is courtesy of Alain S. Batens and was
used with his kind permission. Please feel free to use this as a reference source and print it out for personal use.

For clarity and ease of reading, the pamphlet has been digitally enhanced and enlarged for the reader’s pleasure. In addition, it has been
produced in such a way that it can be read like the original item and so cannot be printed and stapled together in its current form.
