● 1917: Namakura Gatana, produced by Jun'ichi Kōuchi this film was a 4-minute silent
animation, it is among the earliest examples of anime.
● 1919: Master Tom: Feline Follies, created by Pat Sullivan and Otto Mesmer, was the
debut short prototype of Felix, who would later turn to Felix the Cat. Master Tom in
Musical Mews was released later that same year, as well as the third film titled The
Adventures of Felix.
● 1919: The Tantalizing Fly, was the first installment of a series of animated drawings
titled Out of the Inkwell, produced by Max Fleischer with the help of a rotoscope.
● 1921: Walt Disney’s first animated short was called Kansas City's Spring Clean-up
was created as a demo reel and is a two-second clip of an early Mickey Mouse.
● 1923: Felix in Hollywood, a short feature of Felix the Cat, produced and directed by

● 1927: Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, made by Disney and sold to Universal, was the first
featured in the short film Trolley Troubles.
● 1928: Steamboat Willie, an animated short film directed by Walt Disney and Ub
Iwerks, made in black and white, this cartoon is the debut of Mickey Mouse and
Minnie, it was one of the first films with synchronized sound to be distributed.
● 1929: Bosko was an animated character created by Hugh Harman and Rudolf Ising,
he was a star of 39 of the Looney Tunes shorts released by Warner Bros.
● 1930: Loony Toons is an American animated comedy short film series produced by
Warner Bros. from 1930 to 1969, initially produced by Leon Schlesinger and
animators Hugh Harman and Rudolph Ising.
● Merrie Melodies: Merrie Melodies is an American animated series of comedy short
films produced by Warner Bros.
● Betty Boop: Betty Boop is an animated cartoon character created by Max Fleischer,
she appeared in the Talkartoon and Betty Boop film series, which were produced by
Fleischer Studios and released by Paramount Pictures. She is regarded as one of
the first and best-known sex symbols on the animated screen; a symbol of the
Depression era, and a reminder of the more carefree days of Jazz Age flappers. Her
popularity was drawn largely from adult audiences, and the cartoons, while
seemingly surreal, contained many sexual and psychological elements.

stop-motion animation, matte painting, rear projection and miniatures.

military to raise the patriarch's spirit.
● Der Fuhrer’s Face: A Walt Disney musical short starting Donald Duck that poked fun
at Adolf Hitler and the Militarism of Nazi Germany.
● The Spirit of 43’: was also released by Disney Studios, this short encouraged
Americans to pay their taxes, thereby helping contribute to victory.

responsible for the world's first two animated feature films as well as the first
