Nature Collage

AN ELEMENTARY ART LESSON BY MCKENNA SCHLEY

CENTRAL FOCUS:
THE STUDENTS WILL CREATE A COLLAGE
WITH NATURE OBJECTS TO DEVELOP AN
UNDERSTANDING OF AESTHETICS TO
FOSTERING A DEEPER APPRECIATION FOR
THE BEAUTY FOUND IN THE WORLD
AROUND THEM.

STANDARDS: OBJECTIVES:
VA:RE.7.1.KA- IDENTIFY USES OF ART STUDENTS WILL CREATE A NATURE
WITHIN ONE’S PERSONAL ENVIRONMENT. COLLAGE WITH NATURAL OBJECTS
VA:RE8.1.3A - INTERPRET ART BY THEY FIND IN NATURE.
ANALYZING USE OF MEDIA TO CREATE
STUDENTS WILL LEARN ABOUT
SUBJECT MATTER, CHARACTERISTICS OF
AESTHETICS WHEN OBSERVING
FORM, AND MOOD.
VA:CR1.1.1A- ENGAGE COLLABORATIVELY
OBJECTS AND DECIDING THE LAYOUT.
IN EXPLORATION AND IMAGINATIVE PLAY STUDENTS WILL EXPLORE AND
WITH MATERIALS. DISCUSS THE BEAUTY IN NATURE.

INSTRUCTIONAL PROCEDURE:
BEGIN BY EXPLAINING THAT AESTHETICS IS WHAT MAKES THINGS BEAUTIFUL OR PLEASING TO
US. IT'S LIKE HAVING A SPECIAL WAY OF THINKING THAT HELPS US APPRECIATE THE BEAUTY
IN ART, NATURE, AND THE WORLD AROUND US."
TAKE THE STUDENTS ON A BRIEF NATURE WALK AROUND THE SCHOOL GROUNDS. ENCOURAGE
THEM TO OBSERVE THE VARIOUS NATURAL ELEMENTS.ASK THEM TO PAY ATTENTION TO THE
DIFFERENT SHAPES, TEXTURES, COLORS, AND PATTERNS THEY ENCOUNTER.
ALLOW STUDENTS TO COLLECT A FEW NATURAL OBJECTS THAT THEY FIND INTERESTING
DURING THE NATURE WALK.
INSTRUCT STUDENTS TO ARRANGE AND GLUE THEIR COLLECTED NATURAL OBJECTS ONTO
CARDBOARD TO CREATE A NATURE COLLAGE.
REVIEW, DISCUSS BEAUTY IN NATURE, AND GO OVER THE BIG AESTHETIC QUESTIONS.

WORLD AROUND YOU? PARTICIPATION DURING THE NATURE

HOW CAN WE TAKE OBJECTS FROM AND APPLICATION OF AESTHETICS
