PHILOSOPHY

The University of Perpetual Help System DALTA believes and invokes Divine Guidance in the betterment of the

race and prepared for exemplary global participation in the SCIENCES, ARTS, HUMANITIES, SPORTS AND BUSINESS.
It foresees the Filipino people enjoying a quality of life in abundance, living in peace, and building a nation that
the next generation will nourish, cherish and value.

MISSION

The University of Perpetual Help System DALTA is dedicated to the development of the Filipino as a LEADER. It
aims to graduate DYNAMIC STUDENTS who are physically, intellectually, socially, and spiritually committed to the
achievement of the highest quality of life.
As a system of service in health and in education, it is dedicated to the FORMATION OF CHRIST-CENTERED, SERVICE
ORIENTED, and RESEARCH – DRIVEN INDIVIDUALS WITH GREAT SOCIAL CONCERN and COMMITMENT TO THE DELIVERY
OF QUALITY EDUCATION AND HEALTH CARE .

Section I: INTRODUCTION

The University of Perpetual Help – Calamba Campus is committed in providing quality


education to its students. To keep this promise, the UPHSD – Calamba provides updated
facilities especially its laboratories. The laboratories are used for simulation and students’
practical classes.

A. Overview
This Laboratory Manual is written for the faculty and students of the College of
International Tourism and Hospitality Management (CITHM). This document is designed
to serve multiple purpose. It is a source of information, a reference, and a guide tool in
using the Ticketing Office (Tourism Management Laboratory).

B. Elements of the Manual


This Laboratory Manual is divided into three sections:

SECTION I: Introduction — This section contains the Overview, the Elements and
the Objectives of the Laboratory Manual.

SECTION II: Laboratory Use: Procedure, Policies, Rules and Regulation —


This section contains the laboratory protocols and policies, including Cleanliness, Uniform,
Personal Hygiene, and Safety Protocols.

SECTION III: Laboratory Equipment —this section contains facilities, and the
different tools and equipment used in the Tourism Laboratory.

C. Objectives:
The Tourism Laboratory aims to provide the necessary materials and facilities to augment
the students’ knowledge and skills in global distribution system and tour operations.
Specifically, it aims to:
1. Develop critical thinking, self-reliance, independence, by enhancing their skills on
the different uses of technology and applications.
2. Provide effective and quality services that will further enhance the academic
performance of the students in their learning of Tourism and be able to apply their
understanding of learning concepts in real life situations.
3. Enrich the knowledge and skills of the students through various laboratory activities.
4. Evaluate the general condition of the Tourism Laboratory and continually improve a
quality management system in the laboratory activities.

Section II: LABORATORY USE: PROCEDURE, POLICIES, RULES AND


REGULATION

To orderly and effectively use the Tourism laboratory, the faculty in supervision and the
students should follow the Procedure, Policies, Rules and Regulation stated below.

A. Laboratory Cleanliness Guidelines:


1. All students should work in a professional, clean and organized manner at all times
2. No student shall leave the class before clean-up of the laboratory is complete.
Anyone who leaves will be subjected to academic penalty.
3. It is the responsibility of the students to keep the laboratory clean and organized at
all times.
4. Students should follow “clean as you go” procedure.
5. Eating is strictly prohibited inside the laboratory.
6. Cleanliness should be observed before, during and after each laboratory period.

B. Uniforms:
1. All students must be properly dressed in their uniform for the laboratory classes.
2. Students should enter and leave the laboratory class in uniform.
3. Uniforms must be complete, clean, stain-free, and wrinkle free prior to every class.
4. Professional appearance must be maintained throughout the campus at all times
while in uniform.
5. Complete uniforms are required for every laboratory class.
6. Shoes are an important aspect of all business uniforms as they accentuate elegance
and style to the professional business wear. For female students, all shoes must be
black, classic, closed smooth-leather pumps. Heeled shoes must not be higher than
7 cm. Students should always keep in mind that they should choose shoes that are
comfortable to wear, bearing in mind that they might have to spend long duration
standing for certain practical lessons. For male students, all shoes must be black
leather and classic. Shoes must always be clean and polished.

C. Personal Presentation:
1. Hair and nails must be clean, neat and free of any nail polish and conservatively
manicured.
2. Hair should be clean, dry, neat and no ‘unnatural’ or outrageous colors; dreadlocks
are not permitted.

3. Hair below collar length needs to be tied up in a neat bun. Fringe must be worn in a
manner that does not cover the face. Male students are not permitted to grow their
hair long.
4. Male students should not have beard, stubble or any form of facial hair; students
are expected to have a clean shave daily before coming to school.
5. No tattoos or body art should be visible.
6. Smokers should always check their breath and be particularly careful to ensure that
smoke cannot be detected. Always have a mint after smoking or brush your teeth.
7. Fragrances, including perfume or cologne, should be subtle and not overpowering.

D. Safety Protocols:
1. Report all accidents, injuries, and breakage of glass or equipment to instructor
immediately.
2. Keep pathways clear by placing extra items (books, bags, etc.) on the shelves or
under the work tables.
3. Work quietly — know what you are doing by reading the assigned
experiment before you start to work. Pay close attention to any cautions described
in the laboratory exercises
4. Do not lean, hang over or sit on the laboratory tables.
5. Do not leave your assigned laboratory station without permission of the teacher.
6. Learn the location of the fire extinguisher and first aid kit
7. Fooling around or "horse play" in the laboratory is absolutely forbidden. Students
found in violation of this safety rule will be barred from participating in future
laboratories and could result in suspension.
8. Follow all instructions given by your teacher.
9. No eating or drinking in the lab at any time.

What to do in the event of an injury?


1. Rescue the victim from life-threatening danger only if it can be done safely.
Rescuing and first aid should only be administered by people trained and certified
in first aid and/or CPR.
2. First aid kits are always available in the laboratory. Faculty are responsible for
having portable first aid kits for use in the field at locations where medical
services are not readily available. The Laboratory Custodian is responsible for
stocking and maintaining the kits.

What to do in the event of a fire?


In the event of any fire, worry about personnel safety first:
1. Pull the fire alarm immediately
2. Evacuate the area and close any doors to the area

Fire Extinguishers
Using Fire Extinguishers
1. Fire extinguishers are in the laboratory to assist in the evacuation of laboratory
occupants.
2. Faculty and staff should only use an extinguisher to fight a fire (to put out a fire
vs. assisting in evacuation) only if ALL of the following are true:
a. You have had training in the use of the extinguisher and are confident that
you can operate it effectively. Unless trained, faculty and staff should not
use an extinguisher unless they cannot escape the area.
b. There are no flammable chemicals or other combustible materials near the
fire area.
c. You can fight the fire while retaining a safe escape route.
d. The fire is small and confined to the immediate area where it started.

If you use a fire extinguisher:


1. Begin a safe distance from the fire
2. P.A.S.S.
• P - Pull the safety pin and test the extinguisher
• A - Aim the nozzle at the base of the flames
• S - Squeeze the handle
• S - Sweep at the base of the flames

What to do in the event of an emergency evacuation?


1. All students, faculty, and staff should exit the building immediately upon hearing
the fire alarm, and the following actions should be taken.
2. Turn off equipment that could pose a fire hazard. 4. Evacuate the building by the
use of the stairs only. Close any doors behind you.
3. After leaving the building, assemble in a safe area, at a safe distance from the
building. Do not re-enter the building or leave the assembly area until instructed
to do so Safety Team.

E. Professional Ethics
1. Work professionally and effectively.
2. Do not use foul language.
3. Do not talk during the instructor’s demonstration.
4. Do not participate in any form of conduct (singing, whistling, excessive social
conversation) that might disrupt fellow classmates.
5. Come to class prepared by being ready for the week’s lesson.

6. Take notes during demonstrations as valuable information will be given that might
not be publicized in your laboratory manuals.
7. Do not run inside the laboratory.
8. Do not sabotage another student’s work.
9. Do not eat or drink in the laboratory.
10. Do not leave the laboratory unless excused by the instructor.
11. Be helpful, courteous and respectful to fellow students.
12. Focus on your assigned tasks. If you have completed your tasks, ask the instructor
for other tasks that you might be able to perform.
13. Be clean for each class in proper uniform as per dress code.
