Name: Taryn Butler Lesson Title: Rainbow Flowers Art Experience

Date: 2/29/24 Grade Level: Toddler Circle one: ECE PKSN
Standard(s)/Guideline(s): Creative Development 1.a. Expresses ideas and feelings through visual art.

Standard(s)/Guideline(s):
Language and Communication 1.b. Develops and expands understanding of vocabulary and concepts.
Pre-assessment of current knowledge: To pre-assess the children’s knowledge I would introduce the topic through a read aloud. Specifically, I would
use the book titled, “Planting a Rainbow” by Lois Ehlert. As I read, I would stop every so often and pause at each flower that is pictured in the book so
that the children can respond with the color of the flower. For example, if a page in the book had a picture of a red flower, I would read everything on
the page except the color of the flower. I would point to the flower and ask them what color the flower is in the middle of reading the page. This way, I
would be able to assess what the children know about colors and which colors they are not as familiar with.

while they wait their turn.
5. I will have each child come over to the tables where I
will have paint in all colors of the rainbow and plastic
bags that are blown up and sealed for the children to
use to create the art. (What this plastic bag with air
does is if you dab the corner of the bag into paint
while there is air sealed inside of it, and then dab that
corner onto paper it creates a rounded sort of flower
shape, which goes along with the read aloud that we
read earlier)
6. I will have the students put on a protective art jacket
so that they do not get paint on their clothes
7. I will then explain to them what they will be creating
and ask them what colors they want to use (Again,
this will be noted)
8. I will have my own piece of paper and show them
how to use the plastic bag to create flowers
9. Then I will monitor them while they create this
artwork and talk to them about colors while they do
so.
10. I will them leave them to dry, and when they are done
drying I will organize them in rainbow order and
display them outside of the classroom.
11. Later on, I will have a brief conversation with the
children after their art is displayed so they can see
and reflect on the results.
