Indonesia is a tropical country, with air temperatures that tend to

be hot. Using a fan is a solution for most people, including when

sleeping at night, there are still many people who use the cool
breeze from the fan to be able to sleep without being hot.
However, sleeping with the fan on all night can not have a good
impact on your health.

Lecturer at the Faculty of Health Sciences (FIK) UM Surabaya,

Dede Nasrullah, explained several impacts that would occur if
someone turned on a fan overnight in terms of health.

Firstly, there is a lack of oxygen, sleeping with a fan directed at the

body, especially the face, will make the body lack oxygen. Because
the wind produced from the fan is not oxygen, but carbon dioxide.

Second, it can cause allergies, sleeping with a fan can circulate

dust, mites and other allergens in the room. Allergens can cause
allergic reactions, such as sneezing, runny nose, watery eyes, itchy
throat, or respiratory problems. If you suffer from asthma and
allergies, you should avoid sleeping with a fan.

Thirdly, dehydration and hypothermia, this condition can occur

when the body temperature is above normal (more than 40°C).
The cold produced by a fan can make the body unable to adapt to
extreme weather.

The four eyes and dry skin effects of the habit of sleeping using a
fan can result in dry eyes and skin. Dry eyes are more easily
irritated, especially if you rub them often. Meanwhile, dry skin
due to using a fan can worsen previously experienced disorders,
such as eczema and psoriasis.

Fifthly, muscle pain and aches and pains, even though a fan can
make the body feel cooler, exposure to air from a fan also risks
making the body's muscles tense and cramp. This disorder is very
common in someone who often directs a fan at the area around
the face and neck, this actually makes a person wake up with a
stiff neck and body aches in the morning.

Sixth, the risk of Bell's palsy, the cold air produced by a fan can
cause the risk of Bell's palsy, a disease that paralyzes the
facial nervous system.
