1. INTRODUCTION

Civil engineering covers the construction of bridges, dams,

urban water systems (sewers and drinking water supply),
roads, environmental management (wastewater treatment,
waste management) and surveying (land measurement).

Civil engineering is a vast and specialized field. It is

the field of town planning, the function of which is to
build and, more generally, to implement town and
country
Planning decisions.
There are two main areas within civil engineering:

- the building
In both fields,
- public whatever their specialisation, the work of
works
a civil engineer is based on two key concepts: load
assessment and strength of materials. In fact, the
primary objective is to combine a set of materials to
resist loads in order to accomplish a principal function.

2. CONSTRUCTION AND PUBLIC WORKS

 The building

In the building sector, investors come mainly

from the private sector, and their needs are often
economically driven. The structure of the building
is generally of little importance, as the emphasis

in order to meet society's needs, while ensuring public safety and
environmental protection.

4. Technical skills

A. Civil engineering graduates must have a

good knowledge of :
- basic sciences (physics, chemistry, computing, etc.)
- in civil sciences (materials, structures and solids, logistics,
environment, etc.)
- in a speciality (energy, bridges and buildings, water, etc.)
B. They must also have the following skills:
- excellent communication skills
- a pragmatic and creative mindset
