Provocation Planning and Implementation

Name: Molly Loch Date: 2/19/24

Lab Instructor Brooke Classroom: Skyriders

Planning

1. Based on your observations and insight from your teacher, what schemas or
interests do you observe in the children’s play?

The children are really into enveloping and enclosing as well as transporting.

2. What evidence have you collected to inform your provocation idea/plan? (Upload
to Isidore with this form)
● Schema Checklist
● Reflection Journal or Notes
● Fast Fives Worksheets
● Exit Slips (I Wonder, What If, Let’s Try Sheets)
● Other: ________________

3. Describe your provocation. What materials will you use, and how will you set it
up?

In our provocation we will be using fake snow in the sensory bin along with other
objects from the classroom the children are interested in in the snow
(construction vehicles, cups, animals, counting bears)

4. Are there materials you are requesting to borrow from the Bombeck or college
classroom? Who are you coordinating this with?

We will provide the instant snow and the other things are from the Sky riders
room.
5. What standards would this experience address?

Physical Wellness 1.b. Demonstrates developing control of fundamental fine motor skills,
including hand-eye coordination.

Implementation/Reflection

1. Did the children respond to your provocation the way you expected?

Yes they did!

2. What went well?

The students loved playing with the instant snow and it had snowed the night
before our provocation so we were able to bring in some real snow and let
students compare the two.

3. What would you change?

I would probably not put the animals or the counting bears in the bin and pick
some other things to put in there that are more open ended. I would also buy
more instant snow because it didn’t fill as much of the sensory bin as we thought
it would.

4. What learning did you observe happening when the children were engaged in
your activity?

They were asking a lot of questions about the snow as well as developing their
fine motor skills while playing with it.

5. Include any pictures you took of the set-up and implementation of your
provocation experience.
