1. Students asked to read the instructions and then read the Exam Close-up box. Then students asked to look at
items 1-5 in the Exam Task and underline the key words.
2. Students read the information in the Exam Close-up box and explained anything they don’t understand. Students
asked to do the task individually, but check answers as a class.
Activity D(page 85)
1. Students asked to read the instructions and make sure they understand that the correct word for each sentence
1-6 is found in the yellow word bank. Students reminded that they should pay attention to the words directly
before and after the gaps to help them decide the correct word.

Students asked to write some more sentences in their notebook, using the words in D.

Students asked the questions below at random round the class, making sure each student answers at least one question.

Students explained that these questions used the Past Perfect Simple and Past Perfect Continuous tenses and that they will about these tenses in this
lesson.

1. Students asked to looked at the words in bold in sentences 1 and 2 and elicit that the Past Perfect Simple tense has been used. Students
reminded that we use the Past perfect Simple for an action or situation that finished before another action, situation or time in the past.
2. Students asked to read the sentences carefully. Students asked to do the task individually, but check answers as a class.
Activity B(page 87)
1. Students asked to read sentences 1-2 in A carefully and to answer questions 1 and 2.
Activity C (page 87)
1. Students asked to read the sentences and elicit that they have to say whether it is True or False. Students asked to discuss their answer with a
partner and then discuss as a class.
Activity D (page 87)
Students asked to read the instructions and elicit that they have to underline the verbs. Students reminded that we use the Past perfect Continuous for
actions that started in the past and were still in progress when another action started or when something happened.

Students asked to look at the picture at the bottom of page 88 and they asked what extreme situation it shows. They encouraged to
come up with as many ideas as possible about why the people might be walking across the dessert..
LESSON DEVELOPMENT: (40 minutes)
Activity A(page 88)
1. Students read the words in the yellow word bank and their pronunciation corrected where necessary. Students asked to read
the instructions and elicit that they should cross out the word in each set of three that doesn’t complete the sentence so that
the two corrected words are left for them to study.
2. Students reminded to read through the sentence carefully and to pay attention to the words immediately before and after the
gaps as well as to form of the words in the boxes.
Activity B (page 88)
1. Students have a minute to practise saying the alphabet to their partner. Then they practise as class. Their pronunciation
corrected where necessary.
2. The recording play once all the way through and they asked to write their answers. Then students asked to compare their
answers with a partner.
The recording played again and students asked to check their answers and to fill in any missing answers. The answers checked as a
class by asking a student to write the words on the board as the other students spell them out.
.POST-LESSON: (10 minutes)
Students asked to identify with their talk partner at least one new word or expression that they have learned in relation to the lesson
topic. The words/expressions collected and shared as a whole class when students ready.
