Chapter 1

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Background of the Study

According to Tamaki, Kin’ya & Ishii, Kazuyoshi of Japan

(2023), entitled “Automation in Education, Training, and

Learning Systems” The information and communications technology

(ICT) revolution which began in the latter part of the twentieth

century has brought great changes to education and learning. The

spread of the Internet has made information ubiquitous, changing

the emphasis of education from the transmission and acquisition

of knowledge to knowledge creation, and shifting the focus from

large-scale lecture-type lessons to learner-centered education,

project-based learning, and active leaning. Since the perspective

for discussions of education systems is moving from instructors

to learners, in place of education systems we adopt the

expression education/learning systems. When considering the

automation of education/learning systems, along with the impact

of information and communications technology (ITC), the effects

of educational psychology and educational technology cannot be

ignored. This field overall is referred to as instructional

design (ID). This chapter examines the history and present

conditions of automation in education/learning systems from the

perspectives of ICT and ID. Framework of automation in education,

training, and learning systems. The following sections describe

trends of education/learning methods, learning management system

(LMS) tools/functions, open and flexible learning and massive

open online courses (MOOC), learning analytics research for

educational digital transformation (DX), and applicability of

artificial intelligence (AI) and advanced technologies. An

example section from the field of “business producers in future-

oriented business strategy innovation” education/learning program

is applying new educational methods to combine project-based

learning and active learning. The example final section concludes

with a summary of future issues concerning conceptual design and

required specifications of “hybrid learning platform” which

handles with both face-to-face and online educational

technologies, and flexibly combining both synchronous and

asynchronous learning, even in the case of distance learning via

According to Manual B. Garcia of Philippines (2020),

entitled “Kinder Learns: An Educational Visual Novel Game as

Knowledge Enhancement Tool for Early Childhood Education” Early

childhood education is undoubtedly a precursor of cognitive,

physical, emotional, and social development of young children. It

is in this regard why the educational system itself must be

improved and revolutionized in such a way that it can actively

and efficaciously nurture and help preschoolers to better

regulate their learning and knowledge acquisition. Several books

and studies of child development experts strongly recommend play

as a critical component that can stimulate several types of

learning that encourage a healthy brain development.

Consequently, one may argue that there is no better medium to

incorporate learning than play itself. Combining it with the

technological needs of the digital society, a digital educational

game has surely a place in early childhood education and should

be a significant feature of all curricula. Admittedly, the use of

technology medium, such as smartphones or tablets, has been an

issue that poses several difficulties for children and choosing

the most appropriate educational apps for them has been indeed

problematic for teachers. Recent researches still suggest that a

purposeful use of these devices can support and enhance cognitive

and social growth. In order to develop an educational game that

can be easily adopted in a stimulating learning environment, the

proponent used several studies, concepts, and techniques as

considerations and foundations of the educational game as will be

explained in the next subsection. First, the impact of

Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in young children

was assessed through existing evidence to make sure that there is

no harm in deploying the game. Then, examples of digital game-

based learning were analyzed to attain workflow techniques and

game features to be incorporated into the game development stage.

Lastly, visual novel was examined if it was a suitable, if not

the best, genre to deliver learning and knowledge acquisition via

digital game to preschoolers.

According to LA Ponomareva, ON Romashkova, EN Pavlicheva

(2019), entitled “Automation of the Process a Comprehensive

Assessment of Educational Organization in International Russian

Automation Conference, RusAutoCon 2019” The purpose of this

research is the development of an information system that would

allow to carry out quality management in terms of the results of

the learning process. The work is of practical importance, as

algorithm for assessing the learning process is proposed, which

is implemented and integrated into the information system of

monitoring, evaluation, correction of the learning process for

any discipline. With the help of the developed module it is

possible to evaluate the degree of mastering competences by

students and to carry out long-term planning of the educational

process. In the work, the process of teaching students is modeled

on the basis of studies of general information processes in

educational environments. A dynamic model is constructed in the

notation of colored hierarchical Petri nets. The simulation model

of one of the stages of mastering the discipline of the

curriculum is analyzed. Methods of statistical analysis developed

an algorithm for rating the work of the department. The equation

of the discriminant function was obtained, which served as a

rating for real departments of the Moscow City University.

According to Yuli Agustina, Agung Winarno, Ayu Diyah Ramdani

(2020), entitled “Discovery Learning-Based Module of Office

Technology for Students Majoring Office Automation and

Management in Indonesia” From time to time, education continues

to evolve. This trend can be seen in Indonesia's constantly

evolving education system. In order to address the community's

needs to increase the quality of graduates from educational

institutions which is calculated by learning outcomes, the

education system, which is widely referred to as the curriculum,

must continue to develop. In line with the needs of society and

the development of the curriculum, the standard of learning

outcomes also continues to develop from time to time. Learning

outcomes which consist of assessment instruments also continue to

change or even increase dynamically according to the needs of the

subjects. Even so, learning outcomes are still measured by giving

exact numbers or perhaps letters, which are basically coding or

grouping certain ranges of numbers. Assessment instruments that

continue to develop or change due to curriculum changes result in

the unpreparedness of several educational institutions and

students for these changes. Some educational institutions will

find it difficult to provide relevant instructional materials for

the large number of students. This causes students to lack

instructional materials, accordingly teaching and learning

activities become obstructed, not optimal and inconducive.

Currently, the 2013 Revised Curriculum that is enforced in

Indonesia consists of criteria in the form of providing

opportunities for students to continue to develop abilities in

the aspects of attitudes, knowledge, and soft skills that are

important within social life, as a nation and as a state, and to

contribute to the welfare of human life. The 2013 curriculum

employs a scientific approach by organizing learning experiences

in a logical sequence, specifically observing, asking, gathering

information, reasoning, and communicating. Meanwhile, according

to Nugraha & Suherdi (2017), the scientific approach consists of

asking, observing, reasoning, experimenting or trying, and

network developing. The 2013 curriculum also suggests the concept

of independent learning. It further means that students do not

only focus the acquisition of knowledge on the teacher. Moore

(2014) said that in independent learning, students obtain great

responsibility for the learning process. Self-learning requires

students to complete a task or problem through analysis,

synthesis and evaluation of a topic in a subject profoundly. Not

to mention, it is sometimes also through a combination of

knowledge with the knowledge obtained from other subjects.

Independent learning which is identical to the 2013 Revised

Curriculum provides broad opportunities for students to explore

lesson content with their own understanding. However, this

approach can be difficult for students to understand the existing

subject matter for themselves, therefore instructional materials

are required that can contribute and promote their independent

learning process, that is modules. Modules are one of the

instructional materials that are able to encourage students to

learn actively and independently because they are equipped with

learning instruction. Modules are an instructional material in

written or printed form that are arranged systematically,

consisting of lesson contents, methods, learning objectives,

based on basic competencies or indicators of competency

achievement, instructions for self-learning activities (self-

instruction), and providing opportunities for students to test

themselves through the exercises presented in the module.

According to Jennifer D. Makalintal, Dr. Nerrie E. Malaluan

(2019), entitled “Game- Based Learning Activities in Teaching

Grade 7 Science in Batangas “Game–based learning is a process of

inquiry that requires asking questions, observing, data

exploration and data manipulation. It requires learning to apply

and generalize scientific knowledge. Creating such learning

environment requires engaging learners in different games. Active

engagement in learning activities develops conceptual

understanding and motivates students to seek further information.

The study described the game – based learning activities in

teaching science as assessed by science teachers relative to

motivation, application, feedback and reinforcement. It also

analyzed significant differences in the teacher’s assessments on

the game – based activities according to profile variables. The

extent by which the learning competencies were achieved and the

constraints met using game – based learning activities were

determined. The descriptive method was used with the

questionnaire as the main instrument to gather important data

complimented by interview. Respondents were 35 science teachers

in and the statistical tools used were weighted mean, frequency,

t-test and F-test were the statistical tools used in this study.

The findings revealed that majority of secondary science teachers

in Oblate Schools were female, single, early adult with

bachelor’s degree. The science teachers strongly agreed that game

– based learning activities utilized in application component.

There is a significant difference between the descriptions of

game – based learning activities when grouped according to age.

The learning competencies in Biology and Physics are achieved to

a moderate extent but slightly achieved in Earth Science and

Biology. Insufficient materials and individual differences of the

students were constraints met by science teachers.

According to Junsay Merley, Annalee Cocjin, Christine Abrea,

et al., (2020), entitled “Development of an Online Interactive

Module for grade Vll Students` speaking Skills in Guimaras” This

developmental research created an online interactive English

module for Grade 8 students at a private high school in Guimaras.

Specifically, this study utilized Input-Output (IPO) Model to

identify the inputs, outputs, and processing tasks needed to

transform inputs into outputs. For the inputs of the module, an

interview and a performance task were given to the 23 Grade 8

students to evaluate their speaking abilities in terms of

fluency, vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation. This was

essentially the result of the creation and testing of a module to

assist the students in improving their speaking skills. It

comprises the MELCS Grade Eight lessons as well as activities

that might help students improve their speaking skills. The

module's activities will help students improve their speaking

skills in terms of fluency, grammar, vocabulary, and

pronunciation. The respondents' fluency, vocabulary, grammar, and

pronunciation skills were adequate, but none of them excelled in

pausing and pacing, clarity, or emotion. Pronunciation and

vocabulary are strengths, but fluency and grammar are weaknesses,

according to the respondents' overall speaking abilities. They

were also unable to communicate because they were afraid of

making grammatical errors.

According to Rolan Pelegro (2022), entitled “The Impact of

Electronic Simplified Modules for the Academic Performance in

Aralin Panlipunan Among Online Grade 6 SSES of Butuan Central

Elementary School” The Department of Education encouraged all

teachers to create learning resources. Currently, there is no

existing mechanism to cater the online learning modality. Because

of the time constraints and limitations, Self-Learning Modules

are not well suited to online learning. The modules themselves

were not flawless. Learners who are more engaged with their

learning materials perform better academically. With this, the

researcher decided to create electronic simplified modules. The

purpose of this action research was to evaluate the impact of e-

SM or electronic-Simplified Modules for the academic performance

in Aralin Panlipunan among online Grade 6 SSES of Butuan Central

Elementary School. During the second-quarter period, e-SM or

electronic simplified modules were utilized in both synchronous

and asynchronous sessions. The means of two samples were computed

to determine the level of academic performance between the

pretest and posttest. The data revealed that the pretest mean

value was 16.7333, indicating "Good" academic performance.

However, after the intervention, the mean posttest score

increased to 32.3667, indicating "Very good" academic

performance. Furthermore, based on the significance level and the

p value of 0.000, it was concluded that there was a significant

difference in the level of academic performance of learners in

Aralin Panlipunan before and after the intervention. The results

indicated that the intervention's goals had been met. As a

result, the use of e-SM, or electronic simplified modules, in

online education was strongly advised.

Company Profile

Taysan Elementary School in Legazpi City, Albay was a public

school that admitted student with the necessary qualities for a

fulfilling and effective education. TES was among the public

schools in Region V that offered free education programs. The

school’s commitment is to provide quality education to the

children of Taysan. Moreover, the teacher`s of kindergarten

pupil`s in TES used a manual process to teach their lesson. The

teacher used visual aids and flash cards and also gave a hard

copy of activities or the modules to the pupils. The pupils had

to write it down on their notes or paper about the lessons of the

teacher and to answer the activities without consumed time and

effort. The school made efforts to improve their teaching about

the various lessons. As a result, there was a need to develop an

Automation of Educational Modules with voice over to simplify the

process of viewing, creating, adding, and editing the modules.

Importance of the study

The objective of this study was to improve the Automation of

Educational module for kindergarten, specifically for the

teacher`s of kindergarten. The study aimed to provides a better

and efficient educational module with voice over for kindergarten

students. The system developed allowed teacher`s to easily and

fastest access to their lessons. It also helped in monitor and

managed the pupils. This study would have been beneficial to the

following:

Teachers. The teachers can reduce talking or explaining

lessons and kindergarten students can focus more because they see

a visual or animated video.

Kindergarten Student. The kindergarten students can feel the

vitality to listen with teachers and enhances their interactive

learning like virtual games, interactive quizzes.

Future Researchers. The study could have served as a

reference for future researchers who would like to improve or

create their version of the project.

Statement of the Problem

Educational Modules for Kindergarten in Taysan Elementary

School is a manual process to teach their lessons to the pupils

by using visual aids or a chalk and board which was time

consuming and also hand for the pupils to write down on their

notes or paper about the lessons of the teacher. To address these

problem and concern, the researchers recommended the Automation

of Educational Modules for Kindergarten in Taysan Elementary

School to easily teach their lessons and to lessen their fatigue

and cost to do visual aids. The study aimed to answer the

following questions:

1. What were the problems encountered by the teacher in

terms of:

a. Doing visual aids about the lessons.

b. Hand over the modules to the pupils.

c. Assist the pupils to answering their modules.

2. What are the features and and the required

functionalities of the Automation of Educational Modules for

Specific Objectives of the Study

The primary aim of the study was to create an Automation of

Educational Modules for Kindergarten in Taysan Elementary School

1. To identify the problems encountered by the teacher in

terms of:

a. Doing visual aids about the lessons.

b. Hand over the modules to the pupils.

c. Assist the pupils to answering their modules.

2. To develop the features and the required functionalities

of the Automation of Educational Modules for Kindergarten in

Taysan Elementary school.

3. To determine the usability of the Automation of

Educational Modules for Kindergarten in Taysan Elementary School.

Definition of terms

The researcher utilized the following terms to improve

comprehension of the concepts presented in the study. These terms

were operationally defined based on their usage in the study.

Algorithm. The researchers used a step-by-step procedure to

solve problems or perform tasks based on their understanding of

the proposed system.

Data Visualization. The researchers used visual

representations of information in the system and included

diagrams that were necessary to create a successful system.

Data Analysis. The researches utilized this technique by

analyzing data to make informed decisions and gain insights that

aided in the analysis to arrive at accurate conclusions for the

proposed system.

Chapter 2

METHODOLOGY

The DevOps process utilized by the researchers in the

proposed system was presented in the proposed chapter.

The Automation of Educational Module for Kindergarten in

Taysan Elementary School was designed to provide better and

efficient educational module with voice over for kindergarten

pupils, benefitting the teachers and the pupils by reducing

effort and fatigue.

This system allows teacher to view, edit, create and update

modules easily, anytime and anywhere, and also helps to improve

the manual process of teaching to the kindergarten pupils.

In the previous chapter, the Automation of Educational

Modules for kindergarten in Taysan Elementary School was

presented, which aimed to present a vast amount of information

regarding to the lessons/activities of the teacher. The research

strategy and data gathering techniques used by the proponents, as

well as the research methodology applied in the Automation of

Educational Modules for Kindergarten, will be introduced in this

chapter. The researchers efficiently used the DevOps process in a

more understandable manner through the eight stages of DevOps

pipeline, which were plan, code, build, and test in the

development phase, and release, deploy, operate, and monitor in

the operations phase.

Scope and Delimitation of the study

During this study on the Automation of Educational Modules

for Kindergarten in Taysan Elementary School, the teacher had

registered and log-in in the system which enabled them to access

the system and view all the topics/lesson.

The system was protected by a password, and the teacher had

the ability to add a new lesson and edit in the system.

The system was designed to provide fast and easy access to

the teachers was intended only for kindergarten pupils of Taysan

Elementary School and did not cover elementary pupils. The

proposed system could be used anytime. Only authorized personnel

could add and edit in the system. However, the study is limited

to the Automation of Educational Modules and also does not cover

other aspects such as physical learning materials or teacher

training.

Data Gathering Technique

The researchers used interview tools only to collect the

required data for the proposed system.

Interview. The researchers utilized this method to gather

information from the kindergarten teacher`s room and ask some

questions regarding the manual process on how they teach to their

pupils.

Sources of Data

The researchers utilized the primary source of data to

gather information from Taysan Elementary School.

Kindergarten Teacher`s. The information gathering process in

Taysan Elementary School involved the researchers gathering

information to develop the system. The researchers collected

information about the manual process on how they teach their

pupils, as well as the difficulties they faced while doing the

visual aids or the modules. The sources of data enabled the

researchers to enhance their capstone project.
