Introduction
The Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) is taking
proactive steps to enhance community engagement and strengthen the
implementation of Republic Act (RA) 9003, also known as the Ecological Solid
Waste Management Act of 2000. Recognizing the crucial role of barangays in
promoting environmental sustainability, MENRO is initiating its active
participation in the conduct of Barangay Assemblies across all barangays
within the municipality.

Objective
The primary objective of MENRO's participation in Barangay Assemblies is to
facilitate discussions on the effective implementation of RA 9003 and to foster
greater community involvement in achieving the objectives of the law,
particularly in ensuring proper solid waste management practices at the
household level.

Key Agendas
1. RA 9003 Implementation: MENRO will lead discussions on the importance of
RA 9003 and its provisions, emphasizing the roles and responsibilities of
barangays and community members in waste management. Strategies for
improving waste segregation, collection, and disposal will be explored to
promote a cleaner and healthier environment.

2. Community Involvement: MENRO aims to strengthen the active participation

of community members in RA 9003 implementation by fostering awareness and
understanding of their roles in solid waste management. By engaging barangay
residents in dialogue and collaborative initiatives, MENRO seeks to promote a
sense of ownership and accountability towards environmental conservation.

3. Tree Planting Activities: As part of its commitment to environmental

sustainability, MENRO will spearhead tree planting activities in collaboration
with barangay officials and residents. These initiatives will contribute to
greening efforts, biodiversity conservation, and climate change mitigation
across all barangays.
4. Bamboo Inventory: In line with efforts to promote sustainable resource
management, MENRO will conduct a comprehensive bamboo inventory in all
barangays. This inventory will provide valuable data on bamboo resources
within the municipality, enabling informed decision-making and the
formulation of conservation strategies.

Conclusion
MENRO's active participation in Barangay Assemblies signifies a concerted
effort to engage communities in environmental stewardship and RA 9003
compliance. By fostering dialogue, promoting community involvement, and
spearheading environmental initiatives such as tree planting and bamboo
inventory, MENRO aims to foster a culture of sustainability and empower
barangays to become key partners in achieving a cleaner and greener
Cabatuan.
