DOT STAMP MARKER

• Young children and others that have difficulty using
traditional coloring and drawing tools will enjoy the use of Dot
Stamp markers for decorating.
• The sponge tipped bottles of colorful paint allow children to
get creative when decorating coloring pages.

THE USE OF THIS ACTIVITY HELPS:

 Reinforce the concept of one to one correspondence.
 Promote eye hand coordination while using vision to guide
the hand for accurate stamping on the circular dot.
 Promote upper extremity control including a stable
shoulder, a neutral forearm, and wrist extension.

MODIFICATIONS: Try these alternative ways to use the Dot Stamp

Marker Sheets:
• Use a Q-tip dipped in paint for painting in the small circles;
great for developing distal finger control.
• Use crayons to color in the small circles; great for developing
the dynamic tripod grasp.
• Place circular stickers on the circles; great for bilateral hand
skills.
• Use scented Dot Stamp makers for an enhanced sensory ex-
perience.

FINE MOTOR GAME! LEVEL 1

FINE MOTOR

Description: This Snowman soccer themed game is designed to promote the development of
visual motor and fine motor skills, as well as following directions and turn taking. Specific skills
addressed include isolation of finger movements, separation of the hand, and use of scissors.
This can be a one or two player game.
Materials Needed
 One Snowman Goalie  Tape  Crayons
 Ten Paper Snowballs  Dice  Snowman Player
 Score Card  Scissors
Game Preparation
• Snowman Goalie= Print out and assemble goalie as directed. Place assembled goalie
1-3 feet from players.
• Score Board= Print and place score sheet in protective plastic sleeve or laminate if you
prefer to re-use.
• Game Pieces= Children should cut ten snowball squares per player. The child will need
five snowballs for each half of the game for a total of ten. The child will squeeze and
crumple each of the five squares into a small ball to create a “snowball”.
• Snowman= Print, color and cut as directed.

Directions To Play
1. Assign Teams- Home and Guest.
2. To decide which player/team goes first, each player rolls the dice. The player with the
highest number goes first.
3. The player prepares their hand to slide the Snowman onto their hand. To do so, the child
does their best to extend/straighten the pointer finger of their dominant hand. At the
same time the child should curl their last 3 fingers into their palm.
4. Next, the child slides the Snowman onto their index finger. The snowman should be slid
up to the child’s knuckles. The Snowman should be looking out toward the soccer net.
5. One player at a time flicks an assembled paper snowball at the goalie. If the Snowman’s
ball goes into the net to score, then that player/teams gets a point.
6. Each player/team takes 5 turns in each half of the game.
7. Record points using tally marks on the game board.
8. There are two halves.

Using the Score Board: At the end of their turn flicking 5 snowballs, the child records tally
marks for each shot scored. The final score is calculated by adding up the tally marks from
both halves to determine the winner of the game.

Variations
• Children may be seated at a table or prone to play.
• May substitute different fingers to flick the soccer ball.
• Modify the distance between the players and the goalie as needed
• A single player can play against their own score

Description:
FINE MOTOR GAME!
This mitten themed game is designed to promote the development of
following directions, visual perception, dexterity, bilateral coordination, and
fine motor control.

Materials Needed:
• Mittens (5 sets attached: a total of • Scissors
40 mittens or 20 matching pairs) • 20 paper clips or small clothes pins
• Crayons or Markers (optional if • Stop watch/clock with
decorating the mittens is desired) second hand
• Die • Score Card (attached)

Preparation of Game:
• Print mittens onto cardstock or laminate for durability-there are a total of mittens
(20 matching pairs).
• Before laminating the adult can color and cut out each mitten to use repeatedly.

Game Instructions:
For multiple players:
1. The goal is to make as many mitten matches as possible in 1 minute.
2. The 40 mittens are randomly spread out upright on the table for each child to
view.
3. Each player rolls the die. The child with the highest number takes a turn.
4. The child has 1 minute to find matching mittens and assemble them with a paper
clip or small clothespin. The child continues to match and assemble until 1 minute
lapses.
5. Record number of mittens matched in 1 minute on score card.
6. This process continues for remaining players.
7. Each player has 3 rounds/trials.

For single player:

1. The child rolls a single die. The number on the die indicates the number of pairs
the child is to match and assemble.
2. The adult times the child to determine the time required to match and assemble
that number of mitten sets. Assist the child to record the time and number of sets.
3. The child aims to beat their previous best time for that number of sets.

FINE MOTOR GAME!

Description:
This hockey themed table top/floor game is designed to promote development of turn tak-
ing, following directions, visual motor, and fine motor skills. Students will enjoy the strategy
and chance to be a hockey star!

Materials Needed:
 1 Goalie (attached)
 5 hockey pucks cutout & assembled for each player (attached)
 1 Score Card (attached)
 Tape
 Dice
 Scissors

Preparation of Game:
• Goalie = Print out and assemble goalie as directed. Place assembled goalie 2-3 feet from players.
• Score Board = Print and place score sheet in protective plastic sleeve or laminate if prefer to
re-use.
• Game Pieces = Print and cut out the rectangle hockey pucks. Assemble as directed.

Game Directions:
1. This can be a single player or multi-player game.
2. To decide which player goes first, each player rolls the die. The player with the highest number
goes first.
3. Players record names on score board.
4. The first player flicks five hockey paper pucks (assembled) at the assembled goalie, one at a
time.
5. If the puck scores then they get a point.
6. Record points on the game board for each turn.
7. There are 3 periods. A fourth period may be necessary if there is a tie.

Using the Score Board: At the end of their turn (flick 5 hockey pucks), the child records the
number score that he/she achieves in that period/turn on the score board by placing a tally mark for
each shot scored.

Group Game = If playing in a group, the next player takes his/her turn and repeats steps 4 - 6. After 3
periods (or 4 if there is a tie), the total score is added. Winner is the player with the highest score.

Individual Game = If playing individually, the player can play against their previous score.

Variations:
• Children may be seated at a table or prone to play.
• May substitute with different/multiple fingers or tool to flick hockey pucks.
• Reduce the number of periods, for time restrictions.
• Place goalie closer to players to reduce the distance required to flick and score.

FINE MOTOR

• Helps to improve a child’s ability to follow directions.

• Helps to improves hand strength.
• Helps to improve a child’s fine motor control.
• Helps to improve bilateral coordination.

Materials Needed:
 Ping Pong balls- 15 white ping pong balls that will represent “snowballs”. Use a permanent
marker to number each ball from 1 through 15. Depending upon the size of your group,
you may also add more un-numbered ping pong balls to create more “frenzy”!
 Plastic cups- Each participant needs two plastic cups. The child will hold one cup upside
down to trap the balls (“snowballs”) and use the other cup held upright to store the balls
(“snowballs”). Student will trap only one ball at a time until all are trapped.
 Fine Motor Hand Gesture Exercise List- One copy of this needs to be printed. This card will
list 15 numbered fine motor exercises that the child will execute. The therapist will display
this list as a visual model when the children are required to complete the exercise.
 Plastic Cup Labels- Cut out and tape each one onto a plastic cup. Each student will
need 2 cups = One cup is the “trapper” and the other cup is the “holder”.
Directions/How to Play:
1. This game can be played with one child or a small group of children.
2. This activity works best if children are seated at a table in close proximity to one another.
3. The adult provides two plastic cups to each child. The child will hold one cup in each
hand. One cup (“trapper”) will be held upside down and used to trap the moving ping
pong balls (“snowballs”). The other hand will hold the cup (“holder”) upright. This cup will
be used to store the trapped balls.
4. To start the game, the adult/therapist will tell the children to get prepared by holding a
cup in each hand.
5. The adult/therapist will gently drop all the “snowballs” (ping pong balls) onto the center
of the table.
6. The child will carefully slide the trapped ball toward the second cup that is placed in
front of them, directly under the edge of the table. The child can only trap one ball at a
time.
7. Each child will do their best to trap as many “snowballs” as they can without dropping
any on the floor.
8. Once all the “snowballs” have been trapped, or fallen onto the floor, the adult tells the
children to put their full cup on the table.
9. One at a time, the children will remove a numbered “snowball” from their cup. Using the
corresponding numbered fine motor hand gesture/exercise list, the children will take
turns matching their numbered “snowballs” to the numbered exercise. This will
determine which hand gesture/exercise the child will complete. Therapist will assist as
needed.
10.Continue this until all children have removed all numbered “snowballs” and completed
the exercises.
11.Try selecting more then one “snowball” and sequencing the fine motor gestures/
exercises!
