1.0 INTRODUCTION
This Report has been to check the structural design of above said structure. Therefore, it was essential to
verify the adequacy of structural design of vertical elements.

2.0 GENERAL
This section summarizes the design concept, criteria, assumptions and approaches that are adopted in Civil
and Structural Engineering services for the project. The proposed values have been established as being the
most appropriate for the project, in full compliance with international standards and excellent practice taking
into consideration constrains and limitations associated with the project.

3.0 PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The project consists of checking the capacity of an existing reinforced concrete wall for the proposed door
opening.

4.0 DESIGN CODES AND LOAD COMBINATIONS USED

The following standards will form the basis of the design.

ACI-318-08 Code of practice for concrete design

IBC-2009 International Building Code

5.0 STRUCTURAL SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

Wall Thickness: 200mm

Wall Height: 5250mm

Concrete grade: C40

6.0 ANALYSIS & DESIGN METHODS

Design shall provide for the appropriate concrete thicknesses and steel reinforcement patterns for structural
members to resist bending moment, thrust and shear effects imposed by reasonable loads on the structure.

7.0 ANALYSIS & DESIGN TOOLS

The following computer software shall be used to develop the structural load analysis for both of lateral and
vertical loads, however, to ensure the validity and adequacy of the analysis, more hand spot check will be
performed based on the basic academic procedures of the structural analysis and the experience of the
designer, all as part of the quality assurance and quality control internal plan.

9.0 CHECK FOR CAPACITY OF EXISTING R.C. WALL
By Etabs

Wall Flexural Capacity:

As provided:
Vertical: T16 @150mm
Horizontal: T12 @ 200mm

Etabs Design Results:

Capacity Ratio:
Top : 0.203 < 1.0 Hence sufficient!
Bottom: 0.227 < 1.0 Hence sufficient!

Required Shear Reinforcements: Provided:

Top and Bottom = 500 mm^2 T12 @ 200 = 1130 mm^2, hence sufficient!

9.1 SPANDREL BEAM FLEXURAL CAPACITY

- By Etabs

Required steel areas : Provided:

Flexural Reinforcements:
Top = 233 mm^2, 3-T16 = 603 mm^2, hence sufficient!
Bottom = 48 mm^2 3-T16 = 603 mm^2, hence sufficient!

Shear Reinforcements:
Top and Bottom = 852 mm^2 T10 @ 150 = 1047 mm^2, hence sufficient!
