INCREASE IN CRIME RATES

3115. SHRI JOSE K. MANI :

Will the Minister of HOME AFFAIRS be pleased to state:

(a) whether there is any increase in the rate of crimes in States and Union
Territories over the last five years, if so, the details thereof;

(b) whether any criminological study report has been received by

Government regarding crime rates in the country, if so, the details thereof;

(c) the details of commissions of cognizable offenses occurred during the

last five years, State-wise/UT-wise; and

(d) how many IPC 302, 299, 375, 376 crimes were committed in each State
and UT during the last five years, the details thereof ?

(a) to (d): National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) compiles and publishes

information on crimes in its publication ‘Crime in India’. The published

reports are available till the year 2020. The details of the cases registered

and the crime rate for various cognizable crimes under Indian Penal Code

(IPC) and Special & Local Laws (SLL) during 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 &

2020 are given in Annexure-I. The data does not show any such trend. The

details of cases registered for Murder (Section 302 IPC), Culpable

Homicide not amounting to Murder (Section 299/304 IPC) & Rape (Section

375/376 IPC) during 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 & 2020 are given in Annexure-

II, Annexure-III & Annexure-IV respectively.

No criminological study report on crime rates in the country has been

received in the Ministry of Home Affairs.
