PATTERN CROCHET BAG

© Annemarie Benthem
Hello!

Thank you for buying one of my patterns. Here are some instructions that I think you need to know
before you start working on the pattern.

1. In what terms is this pattern written?

In US terms.
2. What materials do I need?
- Cotton suitable for crochet hook size 8mm. I used Katia Cotton Cord (5 balls), but you can
use any other type for crochet hook size 8mm.
- Crochet hook, size 8mm.
- Sewing needle.
- A pair of scissors.
- Bag handles.
3. What crochet hook should I use?
I used a crochet hook size 8mm.
4. Can I use a different type of yarn?
Ofcourse you can use other yarn and a different crochet hook. This will make the heart bigger
or smaller. For alternative yarns you can go here: www.yarnsub.com

I always try to make my patterns as perfect as possible, but please let me know if anything is unclear
or if you encounter any mistakes.

The bag

This pattern is made in a spiral, so don’t turn your work after every row.

5. Chain 4, do 1 slip stitch in the first chain.

6. Chain 3. They count as the first DC. Do another 10 DC in the ring. End with a slip stitch in the
third chain that you did at the beginning of this row. You now have 11 DC around.
7. Chain 3. Do 1 DC in the chain below. Do 2 DC in every stitch, so INC around. End with a slip
stitch in the third chain that you did at the beginning of this row. You now have 22 DC
around.
8. Chain 3. Do 1 DC in the chain below.
*Do 1 DC in the next stitch, INC in the next stitch.* Repeat what’s between * until you’ve
gone round. End with a slip stitch in the third chain that you did at the beginning of this row.
You now have 33 DC around and three rows in 1 colour. Change colour now.
9. Chain 3. Do 1 DC in the chain below.
* Do 1 DC in the next 2 stitches, INC in the next stitch.* Repeat what’s between * until you’ve
gone round. End with a slip stitch in the third chain that you did at the beginning of this row.
You now have 44 DC around.
10. Chain 3. Do 1 DC in the chain below.
* Do 1 DC in the next 3 stitches, INC in the next stitch.* Repeat what’s between * until you’ve
gone round. End with a slip stitch in the third chain that you did at the beginning of this row.
You now have 55 DC around.
11. Chain 3. Do 1 DC in the chain below.
* Do 1 DC in the next 4 stitches, INC in the next stitch.* Repeat what’s between * until you’ve
gone round. End with a slip stitch in the third chain that you did at the beginning of this row.
You now have 66 DC around and you did another three rows in 1 colour so change colour
now.
12. Chain 3. Do 1 DC in the chain below.
* Do 1 DC in the next 5 stitches, INC in the next stitch.* Repeat what’s between * until you’ve
gone round. End with a slip stitch in the third chain that you did at the beginning of this row.
You now have 77 DC around and you did another three rows in 1 colour so change colour
now.
13. Chain 3.
14. *Skip two stitches. In the third stitch: 1 double crocheet, 1 chain, 1 double crochet.* Repeat
what’s between * until you’ve gone round. Please note: do the last double crochet just
before you are at the chain-3 that you made in row 9. Chain 1, do 1 slip stitch in the third
chain of row 9. Do 1 slip stitch in the next double crochet and then 1 slip stitch in the next
chain-1-opening.
15. Chain 4 (counts as 1 double crochet + 1 chain), do 1 double crochet in the same chain-1-
opening.
16. In every chain-1-opening: 1 double crochet, 1 chain, 1 double crochet. Repeat until you've
gone round.
17. When you've gone round, do 1 slip stitch in the third chain. Do 1 slip stitch in the next
chain-1-opening. Chain 4 (counts as 1 double crochet + 1 chain stitch), do 1 double crochet in
the same chain-1-opening. Now repeat in every chain-1-opening until you've gone round: 1
double crochet, 1 chain, 1 double crochet.
Repeat row 13 until your bag is high enough. I made 12 rows of V-stitches in total, but
ofcourse you can make your bag bigger or smaller.

18. After the last row of V-stitches, do 1 slip stitch in the third chain that you made at the
beginning of this row. Now do single crochet stitches in every double crochet and 1-chain-
opening. (78)
19. Do another row of single crochet stitches. (78)
20. Fasten off. Attach the bag handles to the bag.

Last but not least

Designing crochet patterns is a time-consuming and difficult job. I'd love to see you make as
many bags as you like for yourself or to give as a gifts. But please do not make copies of this
pattern, don’t distribute this pattern, don’t share it and don’t sell it as if it is your design. If
you post your own bag somewhere on the WorldWideWeb, I’d love it if you refer to my shop.
