Tower Crane Installation Safe Operation Procedures

The following Safe Working Procedures shall be abided with by ALL workers whose is
required to install the tower crane at the worksite.

Preparatory Works
✓ Submit application to JKKP for installation approval.
✓ Select mobile crane capacity and parking position for initial installation in order to
hoist-up the tower crane components at different distance (radius) during erection.
✓ Co-ordinate with Client for safe access for trucks that will deliver the tower crane
and determine safe & proper storage area prior to installing.
✓ Deliver tower crane components to project site in order to arrange JKKP Ground
Inspection.
✓ Prepare tower crane foundation according to the PE design given by project site.
✓ Obtained the PTI (Permit to Install) from JKKP after Ground Inspection.
✓ Conduct toolbox briefing to signalman, technicians, and electrician.
✓ Liaise with site safety personnel to ensure site condition is safe before installation
and all safety requirements is fulfil.
✓ To ensure a suitable power supply, good lighting, lifting equipment’s and tools are in
good condition and correct before work commence.
✓ All workers involve shall be equipped with safety equipment such as safety helmet,
safety harness, safety boots and other safety devices where necessary to be
confirmed by designated person.
✓ All crane operators must have valid JKKP certificate.

Work Procedure
➢ Prior to the erection proper, the service provider should have a competent person to
oversee the whole operation. His duty is to ensure all necessary permits / approvals
are obtained from the relevant authorities before his team should start work. If
necessary, he should demand to see the approval as it is not our Company’s policy to
accept verbal instructions alone.
➢ Install and align fixing angle or reusable fixing angle with a template provided or a
mast section for ensure verticality before casting.
 ➢ After allowing tower crane foundation base to cure or harden, remove the template
or mast section and install with base mast section on the fixing angle or reusable
fixing angle.
➢ Install remaining mast section as per manual’s mast section configuration.
➢ Hoist-up the slewing table and fit on the insert mast section. Make sure the slewing
table frame is aligned with tower crane jib section.
➢ Lift-up the operator cabin and install to the slewing table. Continue hoist-up the full
assemble counter jib and attach to the slewing table.
➢ Hoist-up the A-frame and fit on the slewing table with support to the counter jib.
Insert the counterweight on the counter jib with the specification given by
manufacture and partial balance the weight during installation jib section later.
➢ Place the require length of jib section and assemble on the ground. Hoist up the full-
length jib section and attach to the slewing table.
➢ Connect the retaining slings (for luffing type only) or tie bar (for luffing and hammer
type) before release the hoisting attachment. Joint up and tension the tie bar line.
➢ During luffing jib released after connected to swing table and release mobile lifting
sling, the main jib will exceed boundary line of the work site, (approximate 10 to 15
meter) hence require worksite control traffic flow and provide sufficient signages of
overhead object.
➢ Connect the main supply to the tower crane switch board and test run, luff up main
jib as sooner after power up. Ensure all motors are in working condition.
➢ Pull out the hoisting wire rope and connect to the lifting hook block. Make sure the
wire rope is in good condition and connection at end jib are in order.
➢ Set the limit and check the brake system and check the safety devices.
➢ Carry out load test with JKKP for approval of commissioning.
