Yamaga Hiroyuki

- At the early 80s japanese adults only focus on economy for their nation, At that time
they was 20s and felt there's nothing much fun during the days. If no one doing it,
they should initiate something. This is how GAINAX started doing anime.
- When they starting doing animation they didn't really care about elder people said.
They just doing it as bold as they could.
- They only making anime for japanese in mind didn't expect massive international
reception
- They even being noted by real germans speaker about how bad was Asuka speak
german in the anime. Yamaga glad they didnt made bad malay language in anime
(laugh)
- The drama Aoki Honoo really closed to what happen back then.
- Although he is thankful for the popularity outside japan, despite of the international
licensing and stuff, GAINAX didn't get much money from it. They want to do
something about it though.
- Otaku no Video was originally made to explain Otaku concept for japanese. At the
time the word Otaku not even existed yet. Peoples who lived in the era would still
think it's a silly approach
- The most difficult in anime production is to raise fund for it.
- They working on new tv series (airing in 2016) 臆病するには訳がある (literally
translated as “There's a reason being a wimp”) and Ninja soccer.

Shoji Kawamori
- He looks very young. He did not really much difference from his high school era.
People seeing him as childish even surrounded by people a lot younger than him
because he easily curious of things and that pleases people who interact with him
- The biggest difference between the era back then and nowadays are the tools using
in anime making. Especially 3D CGI tools, the flexibility of the camera works,
expressions possibilities are endless.
- The design he make is inspired by things that already existed. When he designing
things, he will learn the dynamics how things fundamentally work.
- When he was at Edwards Air Force Base some of them were actually Macross fans.
So it was easy to chat with them. He tried the simulator with Mr Itano that time and
had mock battle with him.
- He really impressed with multi racial nation like Malaysia. He quite surprised the
scenery was quite similar with Macross Do you Remember love. The changes
between now and then are become material for his ideas to use for next anime
series.
- He is happy with the international reception. Japanese are basically dont care what
happening outside of Japan. Since he curious of things which doesn't concern japan,
he being known as a weird person.
- The scene where Isamu blackout/passed out in his VF-19 Excalibur (Macross Plus)
was based on his experience trying Itano circus with simulator
- Working with Yoko Kanno was not easy since she likes to know the very detail of the
series she going to involve. E.g. Kawamori already explain the rough world setting
/summary for Aquarion but it wasn't enough. Then Kawamori explain there was a
scene the fallen angel (enemy) want to retrieve the love letter that he sent from the
protagonist. This particular information is actually Yoko Kanno wanted and where
1man to 2 sen nen mae kara aishiteru came from.
- He actually got approached from LEGO 5 years ago but he more concerned about
the functionality of the joints etc
- He really want to take part of the robot battle between US and Japan as Japan
representative but his ideas might be restricted by the rules of the battle.
- He was involved with Armored Core with full freedom. The game is about
customizing parts of building a robot/mecha, the personality/identity of the mecha is
no longer exist. As the title said, the identity of the mecha can is could be determined
from the core. Therefore it named Armored core.
- At first it wasn't Macross, but an anime called Genociders was already in move but it
hard to get approval to run. Macross was a dummy plan that he thought overnight
and accepted. He removed any elements of imitating other series.
- Regarding the main protagonist disappeared in the macross series, he said it's hard
to conclude the story to satisfy everyone.
- Since he put many efforts each of his designs, he never had specific favorite designs.
Each design has their own attachments. Gerwalk has the biggest influence in his life.
- He want to make more real life things if he got the resources or chance to do it.
- Macross ⊿ (Delta)※ will take part slightly after Macross F. Macross F took place at
the center of the galaxy, but Delta will be at apart of galaxy.

- He mostly use his mechanical pencil to draw his designs. Then 3DCG engineers will
remodel and corrections will be made from there.
- Aquarion was inspired from Getter robo. He actually tried to make papercraft of getter
robot but he realized there's no way it could work. The huge difference is Aquarion
transformation are real.
- Satelight was originally a company that make digital works for other animations until
became full fledged anime company. They created the boom of using 3DCGIs in
animes.
- There was a gap of sales in Macross Zero between episodes because of the battle
scenes was more difficult to make. The know-how that they created Macross Zero
and Aquarion was used in Macross F
- He welcomed real live action offers from Hollywood. He actually had offer after
making Macross Plus (20 years ago) but there's copyrights issue between Japan and
US. He want to settle the copyrights problem with US (Harmony Gold) as soon as
possible.
