PLATE NO.7 – CHAPTER 7
“FLUID FLOW MEASUREMENT”
Direction: Write the questions and your detailed solution (including the units in the
computation) on our given plate. Round off your answers to 3 decimal points.
2. Water flows through an orifice at the vertical side of a large tank under a
constant head of 2.4 m. How far horizontally from the vena contrata will the
jet strikes the ground 1.5 below the orifice.
3. A jet is issued from the side of a tank under a constant head of 3 m. The side
of the tank has an inclination of 1H to 1V. The total depth of water in the tank
is 6. M. Neglecting air resistance and assuming Cv = 1 , determine the following
5. A tank in the form of a frustum of a right circular cone 1.5 m in diameter and
the bottom, 3 m diameter at the top, and 3.5 m high, is full of water. A sharp
edged orifice with C = 0.62 is located at the bottom of the tank. What
diameter of orifice is needed to empty the tank in eight minutes?
6. During a test on a 2.4 m suppressed weir 900 mm high, the head was
maintained constant if 300 mm. In 38 seconds, 28800 liters of water were
collected. What is the weir factor Cw?
7. A V-notch weir is located or cut at one end of a tank having a horizontal square
section 10 m by 10 m. If the initial head on the weir is 1.2 m and it takes 375
seconds to discharge 100 m3 of water, what could have been the vertex angle
of the weir. Use C = 0.6
8. Water flows through a parabolic weir that is 2 m deep and 2 m wide at the top
under a constant head of 1.5 m. Assuming C = 0.65, determine the discharge
through the weir.
